folks
I have a comfort car with half cage and buckets etc.
I am over 6ft and would like to remove the lower centre console (with the storage bin and CD holders) as having driven an RS recently its far more roomy for the legs etc.

has anyone done this?
is it a big job?
can it be changed back when done?

it looks like you need some additional carpet and a blanking plate for the end of the console with the window switches.

Pelican parts have a good kit which has the right colour carpet and parts etc. £150 shipped to uk. sound about right?

many thanks, Nick

You need the GT3 console and a trim that comes in front of the shifter.
It's an easy DIY and completely reversible.
Just make sure that the trim is the black one from the 996 and not the dark grey one from the early Boxsters.

Order it from your local OPC, it's cheaper.

I did this mod last year on mine, I got the blanking kit from Carnewal as it was cheaper than the OPC at the time.

yeah no worries. ordered part 1 and 5

£130 from the OPC. let me know if you need a contact

that's a bit of a saving over getting it from the US plus you have somewhere to return to in the UK.

Bit of a thread resurrection - has anyone had a go at making one of these eg producing a fibreglass buck similar to the injection moulded original carcass, to then mould them? They are going to be carpet covered anyway so wouldnt need to be mm perfect.

At £400+ now for the OEM part I’m surprised someone hasnt created a 3D printed version.

Is it really £400+ now?!

I bought one about 2 years ago from my local OPC (Colchester) with all the parts for about £160 all in...

There are some really useful images in that link to understand the shape / form of the piece.

I’d probably make one out of ply / pine to get the outline shape then make a fibreglass mould from it.

Now just need to source some matching grey carpet!

I might ring up and get a price - it wouldnt be the first time internet sellers hike the price of OEM parts!

@Paynewright did you make one from fibreglass? I'd be interested in buying a fibreglass blank from your mold to carpet myself.

I was quoted £339.38 inc VAT from Porsche Bournemouth a few months back. It was half this price early last year.
