Anyone encountered any problems with buying a TVR that had been originally registered in Ireland?

Theres a nice 1998R up4sale, 1 owner so still with the original registration document - an irish one.

Will it cause any problems when I come to register it with DVLC or will I have to send the document to Ireland to be updated?

Other than this, I'm quite happy as I don't have to fit a private plate.

If it's a northern registered car there shouldn't be a problem.

Is that something like *XI 1234? If it has a green registration book with DVLNI on it then it is definitely ok.
NI is just about still part of the UK when it comes to vehicle registrations. I'm in NI (bought the car from the dealer you mentioned) and put a GB plate on my car - simply had to register it to an address in England first.

Champion that!!!

Its always nice to know that your not going to be landed by a hefty import or VAT tax when you register it

there's no customs duties on the movement of any goods between member states of the EU. And car tax (the old 10% rate was abolished quite a few years ago).

NI runs the same VAT system as us. So if you bought something there that was liable to VAT it would work the same as in the UK.

If you're importing from Eire then it is the same as from France or Germany. But it sounds like yours is a NI car (thank the lord for that, have you seen the standard of the roads outside Dublin?) so you'll be fine. There's even a NI/Belfast based branch of the TVRCC.

Go for it! And have fun bringing it home on the ferry!
