guys, having a quandry, what would you do.

I cant go into specific details & won't name the dealer as want to give them an opportunity to sort it out however,

my car was away having a small job done. I asked them to check one other item. prior to them sending it back they called to say it was all done & that the small job had been completed as was only minor, fair enough.

The car came back and i noticed it had minor bodywork damage & some paint on it, i called them immediately & they agreed to take a look (there was an argument about who was to blame in between this) second to this, the problem that they said they had sorted was far worse than before they looked at it.

They took the car back & eventually agreed to sort the bodywork but said that I'd now have to pay to have the 2nd problem sorted. I argued like hell as I didnt see why I should pay after they'd made it worse (wasnt a major problem before & i hadnt asked them to actually do it, just to check what the problem was & to report back, they just went ahead & did it & actually made it worse!)

They eventually agreed to take it back & sort the 2nd problem foc & gave me a courtesy car. they had my car for almost 2 weeks.

when it came back on saturday all seemed well 7 their driver checked the courtesy car over & found a small scratch (I hadnt seen this before) I basically spent 5 minutes polishing it & it was fine), he then checked the rest of the car & took it.

I went for a drive in my car & discovered that the front speakers were either blown or connected wrongly as they were making a terrible crackling & popping sound & 2nd to this I have had a call from them this morning to say that the courtesy car has another scratch and a small dent it in!

They want to take my car back in to look at the speakers & said we'd discuss the courtesy car afterwards.

should I let them have my car back ? ? ?

No.

You must be having doubts about the dealer to make this post. If you have doubts then don't give them your car.

I always find it helps by saying that I'm a member of a forum visited by several Maserati/Ferrari drivers.

I repeat it often enough for them to get the hint.

Forward them this URL so they can see that you are being fair and haven't mentioned any names... yet.

on the hire car side I would point out that if they've only just noticed the extra 'dent' how can they be confident that you made it? Could ahve happened in the car park etc.

Regarding the issues with your car I'd be complaining up the chain - if the dealer is sctively buggering up stereo installations then this probably isn't the first time.

Not loving dealers myself today - see my thread about my 3 year service....

From your description the courtesy car was inspected and found to have no damage when it was collected. I'd say to them that the damage they now see can therefore only have happened since the car was in their possession.

As for returning your car: I'd be inclined to take it elsewhere (and let them know why you are doing this).

That's a shame. Still they'll learn for next time...

If they did a check, agreed it was ok and accepted the car back, that's it as far as i would be concerned.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't take it back there.

But I would have a word with the manager of the dealership about it.

If you've done this, are they an approved dealer? If so, complain to the importers and see what they're inclined to do about it.

Definitely escalate within the company hierarchy before doing much else with it.

But don't hold your breath (sadly) and be prepared to chalk it down to experience.

I'd be very carefull how you go about this.

Sounds very much like they are trying to get you in a catch 22 situation.

1) You say they checked the courtesy car, so the dent isn't your problem. But then they can say the same about the paint damage to your car (assuming you didnt spot it straight away).

2) You take their word you did the damage to the courtesy car, and they accept responsibility for damage to your car.

Either way, you'll end up paying.

Therefore, don't be too adamant that its there problem since they inspected the car. But point out that the driver was thorough enough to spot a minor scratch (which polished out), so how could he have missed the other damage.

Good luck.

A courtesy car by its very nature could, and most likely wouldl, have been used by others between times. Not least of which the chap who drove it back.

A customer's car, however, should not have been used by anyone else without the customer's consent. Of course, the customer could have loaned it to someone else in the interim, but then that would be calling the customer's honesty into question...

Question to yourself how much this is worth to you (trying to forget the principle, as unless you have infinitie time and funds, one will surely run out if the dealer gets stubborn). And then make a call on just how far to push.
