Showers in work?

I have changed jobs in the last few weeks, and I started cycling again last week ... However since I started back on my bike, two out of three shared shower units in the building have stopped working (I'm sure it's not me!).

Is there a requirement to provide shower where they exist? Or can they shut them all down?

There is no requirement - nothing in terms of rights etc

Is it a big place with a facilities department ?

Must be someone who has the power to call a plummer !

Find the facilities manager and let them know. It would not surprise me if people are grumbling about them not working but not actually telling anyone. Happens all the time. People expect facilities management to magically know when there is an issue. They have showers so I am sure they will want them working.

I don't really bother anymore tbh, 10 mile ride in and my own shower (im the only male who works here, let alone the only cyclist) . I just wear as little as possible (ooo err) so ride "cold" so I don't sweat . Although its handy to have.

The last office I worked in Reading, had one tiny cubicle as a toilet for 15 men (mostly sales people....) and no warm/hot water let alone a shower!

I'm lucky in that my employer is really hot on providing facilities for cycling - there's secure indoor parking for several hundred bikes and quite a few showers that get fixed pretty much straight away if they break. In fact not having at least half-decent facilities like this would seriously put me off taking a job somewhere else; I really like my commute and being a sweaty git means a shower at work is pretty much essential!

OP I'm sure if you raise it with the building manager (or whoever) it'll get sorted - I get the impression that quite a few employers see providing this sort of thing as an easy tick in the corporate social responsibility box, which is good for them and good for us.

and plenty of bike racks that are plastic coated = no metal on metal damage.

Your FM manager probably does not know, your maintenance guy should be checking the showers once a week on his PM's (planned maintenance) to prevent stagnated water = preventing legionnaires disease.

I'll bet your FM manager and maintenance guy don't know this.
