My 1st Porsche - New to Forum
Discussion
Hi,
I've been trawling the standard ads in the press, and even came close to buying from AFN (perhaps you already know this, but they claim to reduce their prices in July due to their year-end).
I'm after a 911 C4, maybe a 996 - would you advise a private buy when spending 50K or a dealer since the car's history and previous treatment is important?
Also, is it just me or do cars not sell very quickly -some ads have been doing the rounds for weeks.
I'll appreciate any direction and experiences shared.
Cheers,
911fan.
There are a ton of 996s out there - hence the fact that some are hanging around.
If you are new to Porsches I would suggest you try the older 993 shape car, like the 993 Turbo 4 (otherwise known as 993tt, because it is twin turbo) as well as the new 996 shape. The older ones are less refined, less modern, but may ultimately have more character. It is this character that *some* Porsche enthusiasts rave on about for years, and never tire of.
The ultimate incarnation of a 911, albeit the most impractical, in your price range is a 993RS - a racetrack refugee of a 911 that has now achieved cult status (read high residuals). Mostly in LHD only they will show you the other end of the spectrum to the comfortable, quiet and effortless performance of a 996C4.
A good mix of old character and new refinement is probably the 993tt though. A number of PHers have or have had these, and they come highly recommended. Try at least one 993 and one 996 in your price range before you buy - actually on the roads, not just in the showroom
Have fun in your search
