How much is red actually worth
Discussion
I'm hoping to buy a 355 in the very near future (next week actually) and have seen a Black/black 355. Now although I love the combination I have to be realistic, not made of money and will sell it on one day. Is Red the only colour that is easy/easier to shift. Will a colour like Black be a problem at resale, i.e. should I wait for a Red one?
Thanks for any help/suggestions!

What cars are offered for, and what they sell for may not be one and the same.
My opinion on colour is that the obvious choices make a car *easier* to sell. Fortunately for me, I like red Ferraris and couldn't give a toss if most are this colour. It's hardly as if they're like red Fiestas in terms of numbers now is it!!
But if, when you sell, there happens to be someone who *really* likes/wants black on black, and all he can find out of those for sale are 80% red, your black car is going to look very attractive and may, if you do your homework as well as the buyer, eventually command a premium in terms of actual selling price.
What I'm trying to say is this. I've seen so many posts both here and on Ferrarichat pissing around asking about resale values, what constitutes a good price and a multitude of other monetary factors that I truly wonder whether buying a Ferrari is right for these people.
Of course no one wants to lose money on a car. But these are such irrational purchases in pretty much every single respect that you should simply go for the car that you've always wanted to buy.
Your first Ferrari (and any Ferrari or supercar for that matter) should be something you've yearned for. If you "lose" an extra 1k, 2k, 3k on it in a year or two, so what? You've had the car that bit sooner because you didn't sit around fretting about the whys and wherefores, inevitably making you worry more every time you drive it!
How many 355s are for sale at any one time? 30? 20? Less? Look at the asking prices for all of them, take a look at many and buy the one you really like most of all of them.
Just don't spend all your time when you finally own it looking at the odo, or panicking that someone might not appreciate your metallic purple with pink interior preference should you want to sell it. Which you won't
PS Whatever you buy, put 2k to one side for a tubi. Colour does not make your hair stand on end. A tubi will (even me, and I have no hair!).

BLACK IS CURRENTLY "THE" COLOUR IN FASHION ONCE AGAIN, NOT SAYING IT IS MORE POPULAR THAN RED ON A FERRARI BUT IT IS DEFINATLY IN VOGUE AT THE MINUTE...DOESNT MEAN IT WILL BE WHEN YOU COME TO SELL ON THOUGH!
Maybe on the newer cars like 360, but i think i've only ever seen 3 blk 355s. Here's a list of 355s from Autotrader, check out the similar specced, same mileage red vs others.

IMHO, "resale" red [ rosso corsa] cars are offered at about £1500- £2k over a similar specced car in a different colour.
Indeed. But isn't it the case that you'll pay £1500-£2k less for the car in the first place. Therefore you don't actually 'loose' any cash.
How easy will it be to sell... and thus will you have to drop the price if you suddenly need to sell in order to get a quick sale... are more important considerations. I don't know the answer.
Spot on Rico. And if you want to sell anything in a hurry, dropping the sticker price usually works (unless you drop it too far!). Red cars too.
Jason - go and buy it. You will have a truly awesome car, and if you're anything like me, it'll be a dream come true.
Every time you see YOUR 355 in the drive, or in reflections in windows (come on, we all do it!), you will care not one jot how much you might get for it in 12mths' time. Mostly because you will find ways not to have to sell it in 12mths' time!
Remember to get it independently inspected (even if it's from a main dealer!), and if it checks out, get it bought. Then post some pictures up!
Good Luck.

There are a few black cars around, in my view they look wonderful.........I sold 5 or 6 new in 96/97.

That's never your car - it's clean
You wanna see the state it's in now! Had a cracking 200 mile drive yesterday up the Caterham showroom near Hinckley, then onto Nick Whale. Torrential rain in places, but the car performed flawlessly and the Capristo got lot's of appreciative smiles from fellow road users
Guys,
i'm not disputing the 355 looks great in other colours . My next Ferrari will be TDF/Tan ;
The question was " will i lose ££ on resale because the car's not red?" IMHO, yes unless someone is looking specifically for blk/blk. Just MO . As Murph mentioned, if you have your set on blk/blk then go for it

You're not thinking of a proper track day tool now are you as well?
Go on, you know it makes sense. And there are some bargains to be had at the minute!
Tony - as Rico says, you shouldn't necessarily lose out if (a) you make sure you knock some off the price at the outset and/or (b) you don't get yourself into a position where you have to rush to sell.
Be careful on the cars you're looking at btw. I might be inclined to wait a wee while if I were you

No, Not for me
Although, i must confess that the new model with the 2.3 cosworth engine looks an appealing prospect!
