May 8th - Butter Tubs

What is the deal with this? How are people getting there? Is there going to be a meal? Is it just driving over the pass? Which way do people envisage getting there, are you heading as a "convoy"?

Looking at the maps, I'm thinking the best route for me would be to head up to Alston on the A686 and come down the moors, cross the A66 and enter the North York moors to the west of ButterTubs, reasoning been it's much more fun and comfortable to come down the NSL moor roads than the motorway for me. It wouldn't be impossible for people from the Durham area to meet up in Alston either (just come across the A689) although it does add a fair chunk to the journey for you (it's only an extra 20miles for me).

What is everyone elses plans/times?

Stefan I've got it in hand. Convoys, meeting places, food, route. It's all pretty much sorted. I need to arrange things so the NYPHers can join us. Too early to post plans yet.

How about Bollihope Common, up to Mickleton and across Grain's o' the Beck down into Brough? Then you've got either Mallerstang or Birkdale Common to choose from.

The 6th will happen. It's going to be a run to Helmsley for food followed by a run out on some interesting NY Moors roads. The start point for you northerners will be Teesside Airport (or what ever its new name is now)

Will you be coming the Kirklevington roundabout way or tracing the A66 to take you round the top of Middlesbrough?

I could stop just short of Crathorne after crossing the A66. Pull up at the side of the road. There's plenty of space there to pick you up.

No don't get me wrong, I don't mind driving out to join in. Just wondered which way around the run went; i.e. Clay - Helmsley and on, or, Birk Brow, Castleton etc.
I certainly don't want to miss this run.

Re. Cobweb: I know a nice route from Great Broughton that gets you up to the Castleton road....

BTW, do I remember correctly, that some of you meet up at the Bay Horse in Broughton on Saturdays? Is that likely to happen sometime soon? Or is it only a one-off thing?

Our first meeting was at the Bay Horse, think we stopped there on the way back from Helmsley last summer too... not a regular thing as far as I know (though we could make it so...)
