Having just returned from a weekend in North Wales I'm now massively taken with Wales. Unfortunately Snowdonia is a bit far from Southampton (5.5hrs) to go with a 2 year old and a couple of dogs, so I thought a short midweek stay in the Brecon Beacons might be a good idea once the kids are back at school and assuming its similar??

We were in Betws y Coed when in North Wales, so where should we be looking to stay?

Depends what you're after really, both from a holiday break and somewhere to stay. I'd add Monmouth, Brecon and Abergavenny to your list of places to visit. Or Cowbridge just down the road from me... lots to do in the Vale.

Nant Du Lodge is nice and in a good location to explore the beacons.

Sorry, forgot to add I'd be looking at the cheaper end of the market, maybe a small cottage but somewhere that will accept dogs. Maybe a mobile home?

Really looking on recommendations for the area to stay ideally.

Well, we went from Southampton-ish to here and had a great time. Suits dogs but not sure about the child.

The Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire are all in fairly easy reach. There's nothing at the place but a pub though.
