Hi All,

I am looking at getting back into Porsche ownership shortly and wanted to get some thoughts on the 997 Gen 2 Turbo Vs the newer 991 S. I can go to £65k max.

So my thoughts are that the 997 is a super car and I have always hankered after one, stunning in every way (I have driven the gen 1 and will go and test drive both this week some time) and a good way though its depreciation curve. I also don't see me losing a ton of money in depreciation over the next 2 years and could get to drive something that is considered as one of THE supercars.

The 991 S in my mind looks stunning and is a much more modern place to be, looks like Porsche have finally come into the 21st century and as far as I can tell they go really well. Not a super car but certainly fast enough in the real world. My main concern is they probably have a longer way to go in terms of depreciation and in 2 years I could end up losing £20k which makes the 991 a more difficult proposition.

So any thoughts on ownership of the 2, what are they like to drive/own. Any thoughts on the depreciation piece?

Cheers!

You figured the depreciation piece out already.

Ownership similar, drive them both yourself - only way to know

Nice decision to have though

gen 2 turbo at £65k is right on the limit so not much choice at that low price point.

I recently bought a 997 turbo gen 2.

I have a BMW M3 as a daily driver, the 991 S is no quicker than my M3 however the 997.2 turbo is in a completely different league. However it depends on your priority whether your after a sports car or a Supercar.

Took my ages to find the right car as I was after a car with the factory Aerokit and carbon fibre interior trim.

If I was currently searching for a turbo I would be extremely tempted by thus one, the only potential negative is the red interior but would have to see it in the flesh. However 1 owner car with only 3000miles !!

Just back from a test drive, definitely want one now!! Just amazing piece of kit, quite astonishing! Just got to find the right one now(which I may have already done). The one below looks nice but just not sure I could cope with the red interior, would give me a migraine!!

I think £65-70k is the benchmark for a clean one - either low mileage through an Indy or higher mileage OPC.
Finally got my 997 Gen 2 tt last Thursday - spotless from OPC Guildford.

It hasn't stopped raining here in West Dorset for a week now so all I've done is driven it back from the dealers (120 miles in the rain and then fog), cleaned it, driven to Bridport (in the rain), Yeovil (rain and mud) then cleaned it again.
Average speed over 185 miles..... 29mph which is 8mph slower than the last 500 miles in my Focus.
Things need to change......
Bank Holiday forecast looks a little better......

Was it the convertible 997.2 turbo that you purchased from OPC Guildford?

Well just finished a test drive of 991 C2S and am now really confused............ Really loved it, just a big step up in every way from the 997 imo. Just go to decide if I want to go mental supercar or modern sports car.

No - it was a 1 owner 2010 dark grey 997.2 coupe (lovely colour when it catches the sun). Good spec - all the usual (PDK, Sport Chrono and adaptive seats) plus a sunroof.
I saw it just a day after they'd taken it in part ex for a 991. It was only on their website for a day or two, so I was perhaps lucky to get in early.

They had put a slight dent in the front bumper on the morning I collected it (they'd accidentally closed the electric gates on it) -and although I wouldn't have noticed the dent, they insisted on repairing it (or replacing the whole front bumper) - so it's going into the workshop next week. Have to say that I'm impressed with OPC service, the car looks new - not a scratch inside or out. 4 brand new tyres too, when they originally only offered to replace the fronts.
