Hi folks. I've bought some centre caps off a seller on eBay, which were sold As genuine porsche items. They could well be, but equally they could also be Chinese copies.

Is there any easy way to identify oem ones? I notice the Chinese copies all have the correct codes etc on the back of them as well.

It's not that I don't believe the seller, I just want to be sure...

Thanks for your help.

Post a high res picture of the front and back so it can be compared to the 100% original ones.

Seller says they were off a brand new boxster?

My OEM ones looks like this

But that could be as they are the old style. So I'd like clarification on whether the new ones are genuine or not.

The originals come in a reassuringly expensive silver box, which probably costs more to make than the counter-fitters sell the caps themselves for... and is otherwise rather useless!

edit: and that's probably not very helpful for you if the seller says he took them off a car! Does he have a good reason for having removed them from an existing set of wheels, by the way - asking him to explain that might help you understand their authenticity.

genuine/OEM caps will have the 996 part numbers on them.

same as all the other Porsche parts across the 996 range

your ones do not have these therefore will be copies.

He's saying they came off a brand new 981 boxster though. Not a 996.

This is Ebay we're talking about. You can probably assume they are genuine and fresh from the NCP most local to the seller.

Then, of course, there is the question: does it bleedin' matter? If they look legit, who is going to know, or much less care, whether they are OEM or not?

I take your point. For what I paid for them, I shouldn't give a toss.

Bought a replacement off eBay for £20 a set rather than Porsche's £200 IIRC, look identical and the Chinese ones fit tighter

I bought a set for £10 of eBay, came from China, even came in individual 'porsche' boxes with part numbers etc!
Clearly fake, but they are great quality and look no different than the genuine plastic caps once fitted. They are even still in place after 5 track days!

Think I know where my next set will be coming from!
