HI,
As you all know, I bought my Caterham from Caterham South in July. On delivery they didn't have ready, the "select pack" or the steering wheel and the service history pack I was shown prior to buying the car. But promised they would send all of it to me.

It's been a month now so I phoned them and asked to speak to Dominic Lee (the sales guy) and was told he has left the company. So the receptionist said someone will call me back.

Well.... still waiting for the callback.

Does anyone have any direct contact details for anyone at Caterham South? It would be nice to get the above resolved.

Many thanks

Not good post sales so far, however let's see if they can recover the situation.... The guy I emailed got back to me within 10 mins to say he will sort it out, so here's hoping :-)

They need to get people like me to be on side (new to the marque) otherwise they won't be able to grow the business....

Good luck smile

Great car, some great people (like Dominic) but over the years there have been a few bad ones.
In 1990 I actually bought a Westfield because the Caterham salesman was such an ar*e!

No problem. My new R400 needed a new gearbox. Derek Howlett put me in touch with James. He got the ball rolling and Paul got involved. Paul got the job done in a week or so. Car is back with me showing little sign of disturbance and running well.

Ok, disappointing that the gearbox was faulty but no complaints about the service. Good communication and a good resolution.

Please do let us know how you get on.

What symptoms did you get from the gearbox before it failed?

After about 600 miles I noticed a resistance to rolling it in the garage, like a brake bind. Then my son found that when he started it, clutch depressed, in neutral and then released the clutch, the car moved forward a little. Then it actually stalled the engine. All in neutral.

I guess it points to the baulk rings binding in the synchro, but whatever, Caterham asked us to take the car in to Crawley, where they looked at it and changed the box.

The new box is certainly different and arguably better. The first one seemed to need a very accurate movement of the lever moving between 3/4/5/6. Slightly off and it would baulk. This one is smoother on the change and less sensitive in this way

Also the new one makes more noise, in neutral with engine running. Of course it stops as soon as the clutch is depressed and isn't audible under way. I have some experience of gearboxes, particularly dog boxes in formula cars and have heard far worse! This doesn't worry me, given the lack of soundproofing, proximity etc., the point is that it's definitely noisier (freer?) than the first one, and I wonder if that's significant to its fault.
