Fiat 125s Twin Cam
Discussion
After giving it a wash today I thought I'd pop up some pictures. My dad has owned it for almost 2 years now after buying it from a museum in Malta. The story (whether believable or not!) was that it was owned from new by a school teacher in Malta who only used it at the weekends, making it very low mileage with just over 26k on the clock. The problem with doing very few miles was the assumption was made that very little maintenance needed doing, this caused problems when it arrived in the UK as the coolant system was a mess of tap water and rad weld and it subsequently boiled!
As a result of this the engine has had a total rebuild by Guy Croft and now goes very well indeed!

Hi,
This brings back happy memories. My Dad had a 1972 one, although I think his was a later model than yours, as where yours says "125S", his said "125 Special" and the interior was different as were the rear lights. From a web search the rear lights looked like the image below:
From memory, the 125S was:
100Bhp from 1600 CC (standard 125 was 90 Bhp)
Top Speed: 106 Mph
5 speed Manual (when everything else was 4 speed)
Discs all round
My Dad loved this car, still talks about it to this day.
My Dad got it in circa 1978 and even though it was only 6 years old, it went very rusty very quickly.
It was painted brown with a light brown cloth interior and as it was Limerick registered, the registration was "PTI 125" (I think)
From Memory I think the original factory service manual is still at home. I will check.
It was a fantastic car.

Thanks for the kind comments, I knew there'd be a Lada comment somewhere
In response to some questions, it's the 1608cc twin cam and is currently running about 125hp
Crossy67 - I remember it well, my dad was also very tempted but didn't act upon his thoughts quick enough, it seemed to sell quite quickly?
gf15 - Yes, it looks like your dad's was the later facelift version with a few tweaks to the front and rear lights. My dad had a 124 Special T that was only a few years old at the time which also went very rusty very quickly!
Mound Dawg, that looks very nice! Is it still on the road?

lovely looking car !! I have just bought a fiat 132 from Malta so I understand where you are coming from when it comes to the mechanical side of things !!
the badly dented sump and broken off oil pump pickup was my favourite !! wondered why there was a extra 2 litres of oil in it when we drained it down

A bit of a thread revival thanks to a link from the OPs TVR thread!
That's the posh one, the 125S and as someone said 100bhp and a 5 speed gearbox - plus cloth inserts in the seats and QI headlights.
My Dad bought a 1970 125 "ordinaire" in 1972 with 90bhp and a 4 speed box. It was Olive Green with tan vinyl seats, but he loved it. He had a major stroke in 1975 and Mum kept it in the hope he would regain the use of his left arm and leg but sadly he didn't. So in 1977 it became my 2nd car and felt like a rocket-ship after my 1500cc MK2 Cortina - it would often get into an indicated 3 figures! And I did get to take him out in it.
Not the actual car as it was RHD, but it was this colour.
