997 CLUTCH OVER HEATING?????
Discussion
Hi Guys!
I've recently completed two track days at Silverstone, one in March and the other July & both dry.
After some pretty quick laps I'm finding the clutch pedal is slow to return to the top and sometimes stays down. March wasn't too bad and presumed the clutch fluid needed changing so before the July day I did a full brake and clutch fluid flush and change with Gulf race fluid dot 5.1.
The July day was ambient 24 degrees air temperature so 10 degrees warmer than March and really struggled with the clutch pedal staying down even though the fluid was changed!
Anyone experienced this or has any idea of what the problem can be. Clutch was changed two years and 4,000 miles ago.
Cheers

That sounds a bit like it could be the vacuum reservoir on the clutch line. From memory it should last about 10 pumps one after the other before it goes hard i.e. runs out of vacuum. It is designed to reduce the weight of the pedal. GT cars don't run them, but I think the rest of the series does.
No power clutch on your model (turbo only).
You should have a helper spring at the pedal end of the system; if you push it down 25-30mm there should be a definite return pressure; if the pedal feels dead around there then it's likely the spring has snapped.
There is a likelihood that a 987 clutch cover has been fitted in error; theyfit but they stick when at high revs- hope it's not that.....
