But what about long term? 10-15-20 years? Any appreciation?
No. Nice watches, well made. But readily available with good discounts. The ranges are regularly updated, which leaves a supply of older pre-owned watches in the market place. That said, they are a very good pre-owned purchase....fido said:
I would take into account any recent servicing as well. My 2003 Superocean has just gone in for major service (losing a few minutes a week) and I expect the bill to be a few hundred quid .. guess that's the price you pay for owning a Swiss automatic.
You should try Darius at the Clock Gallery in Ealing. There's a lot said about servicing by the original manufacturers that actually isn't true. Any decent watchmaker can service a swiss automatic, change the seals and re-test the waterproof for a lot less than 'a few hundred quid'

I will bear that in mind next time. It's been away for 2 weeks now and I still don't have an e-mail telling me when and how much the refurbishment will be (they mentioned that I will be given an options list of work to be done).Lostprophet said:

Not likely, maybe 30-40 years you might break even, disregarding any servicing/batteries you may have had. My Aerospace is almost 20 years old now and is probably worth just over half of what I paid new. £1200 FWIW
It'll never get sold but it'd be nice to break into profit one day.

If they can get parts that is. Many of the Swiss brands now have independent but accredited watchmakers who can get parts. Many who are not can't. I've this experience before, a certain watchmaker was recommended to me for a service, the £150 per watch seemed like a bargain, until he told me that he couldn't pressure test one watch, then told me he couldn't get parts for another, the third he just flat refused to even discuss. So off they went for a manufacturer's service, cost a little more, but it was worth the piece of mind for me.

Unless you contact Variomatic here on PH. Just had my Rolex and Breitling SuperOcean serviced by him. Excellent!
