New Gallardo Model(s) - Steve Suttcliffe
Discussion
Anyone else read Steve Suttcliffe's column in this weeks Autocar.
Seems that a impromptu conversation with a Lamborghini insider revealed more around what we already suspected:
600 bhp version of the V10 - tested and signed off
Engine soon to go into Gallardo's to steal F430 thunder.
"Sport" (guessing an SV) version of the Gallardo released in Summer (hopefully RWD & poss DSG?)
Question is - what will the effect of these new "high power" models, aligned with the introduction of AMV8 and F430 competitors, have on the already depressed Gallardo market?

Well I think pretty much all owners of limbos/Ferrari's expect to take a big hit when they sell the cars. You've basically got to take the view that if your enjoying the car ownership experience right now, you don't need to worry about resale until you fell the party's over.
I spent way too much time in my last car worrying about mileage and resale values to truly enjoy the car. I knew i paid too much for this one but wanted one for the "summer" (04) and paid the price. Since then Ive done 5k miles which has probably taken 30-40k of the value of the car anyway. But Ive had one hell of a time and no plans to give the keys back just yet

Nowt, was on the www.gumballer.com website the video was on. Wasn't paying attention to be honest....02:15am ans time for a snooze.
I said most expect to lose money, not all will lose money. If your looking at cars as investments, unless your very very good, you will lose money every time. No matter what you get into.
The only way you would make money on a spider or for that matter even break even, is to have left it in its wrapper all year. No way you put miles on a supercar (eg. use ot for what its inteneded) you come out in the black.

Tremendous.
600bhp in a Gallardo should hopefully get porsche sorting their act out by raising the standard 911 turbo to 550+bhp, which many tuners already offer. My current understanding is that the next generation 997 turbo will only have 450bhp as standard, which for me is unacceptable as I'm already used to that with the X50, frequently not having enough power when out on the roads trying to make reasonable progress.

Hoping for higher than 450bhp, theres talk of it being as high as 500. Porsche tend to not need the same level of grunt to get high end performance though, so we'll have to wait and see. I've got a 997 T on order for early 06 delivery, but the dealers have little or no real information to share at the moment.
On current info I've told my OPC not to add my name to their list for the 997TT. When I only use the car for fun (7k miles per/year), I can't see the point in taking a £50k hit to get a car with similar BHP to what I've already got. However if they told me the new car was going to be 550bhp, I really do worry for my accountants health, but a PHer has got to do what a PHer has got to do.

I bought my used 360 Spider from Graypaul, drove it for 7 months, put 4000 miles on it and sold it for what I paid for it. I bought a Ford GT and sold it for more than I paid for it (admittedly I didn't own it for long, but if I sold it today I'd still have made money on it). It can be done !
timing...have watched a few of GT2-mans threads wioth interest....I would guess (and may well be wrong) that he watches the market, sees whats's coming and has got his timing right. Christ - if you got a new MINI in the first year they came out you could put 12K on it and sell it at a profit! TT was the same, Boxster, first SLK (and probably new one too). Is VERY rare in supercars though (for fairly obvious supply/demand reasons)...but ferarris manage sometimes....
The point about Lambo oversupply with the Gallardo is a good one. The reason the diablo / murci depreciate so badly is cost of running em coupled with the genuine lack of people able/willing to spend over 150K on a toy. The Gallardo is at a more sensible level (seems odd that 50K makes such a diference but it really does) but then they're taken away their rarity buy pushing em out a bit too quick.
you can avoid major depreciation by letting someone else take the major hit...Simon...when's the Murci up for sale

I take my hat of to you then, you are one of the few that i eluded too in my initial posting. Being one of the 20 or so Ford GT owners illustrates my point. To my mind there are easier ways to make money and with far less risk than supercar speculation.
I represent the "many" that lose on car purchases, but quite honestly i don't really lose any sleep over it. If you need to worry about the depreciation then you shouldn't have bought the car in the first place.....
