I have won a day trip to visit the Merc factory in Germany plus a trip round their test track, unfortunately I have to be at Heathrow at 5:45am. There is no way I am going to be able to get there from Orpington as the trains don’t start running until 4:30am .

I have had a look at www.s-h-systems.co.uk/search.pl?Area=53">www.smoothhound.co.uk/cgi-bin/www.s-h-systems.co.uk/search.pl?Area=53 which lists local hotels/B&B’s. Can anyone recommend somewere to stay as I have never been to Heathrow before. All I need is somewhere to put my head down for a few hours as ill have to leave before breakfast anyway.

The problem might be getting a taxi that time in the morning, so if the hotel/B&B is close enough is there pedestrian access to walk in or are there shuttle busses.

I would drive and leave my car at the airport but we are visiting the Becks factory in the afternoon for a tour and free tasting

Cheers
Paul

Paul,

All of the main hotel chains have hotels along the A4 Heathrow perimeter. It is not easy to walk in to the terminals but they do have free shuttle buses that run for the first flights.

Being Heathrow the cost will not be cheap - I guess £100 per night but you may get better. Try the web sites for Hilton, Holiday Inn, etc.

You may want to price up a minicab from home - it may work out just as cheap.

Cheers,
John.

I've stayed in various places along the Bath Road (runs alongside the airport) - the Renaissance or Marriott are my own favourites but there are 2 Holiday Inns (you don't want the M4 Jct 4 H/Inn as this is miles away) along with a Radisson and a Sheraton or two. Prices will be between 75-150 quid, but then they're always pricey around airports. Shuttle buses run from about 5am from all the above and costs £3 one-way.

I tried the cab route but they want £48. As B&B's start at £30 and Holiday Inn £70 (single room) I thought id stay over and get up an hour later.

As for getting a lift I dont think I could wake anyone up that early.

There is a Travelodge at Heathrow, no fancy facilities but it does have a bed. It will be more expensive than the usual £45. Do a search on the internet or call 0800 850950 for central reservations. Last time I stayed in one of the big chains it was £149.

no probs - best bet is to go to www.renaissancehotels.com or www.marriott.com and fill in the 'find and reserve' section. The Renaissance is the nearest hotel to the airport - it's the first one you see after coming out of the tunnel - the Marriott is a bit further down the A4 towards London but only a hundred yards or so. Hotel Hoppa runs a shuttle bus service (bus numbers H1-H9 I think) which serve three or four hotels each, and stop at all the terminals except 4 - you get the bus to T3 and then get the free train if you want T4. Last time I stayed at the Renaissance was June when I took the missus to Paris for her 30th we stayed a night either side of the trip and they charged me 115 quid for B&B on the Tuesday and 89 quid on the Friday...not bad considering. If you're looking at a bit cheaper then the Holiday Inn Heathrow Ariel (www.holidayinn.co.uk) has single rooms from about 60 quid.

Mail me offlist at andy@churchill.com if you want more details...

For cheaper accomodation in Heathrow area - try the following:
Stanwell Hall Hotel 01784-252292 or
Master Robert Hotel 0208 570 6261
Hope this helps
Neal.
