Discussion
Here's a rumour that sounds pretty interesting, a new special edition 911 with a Turbo S body and GT3 RS engine:

No, Apollo would have had one by now if it was true, that or Lordofthemanor would have been told by OPC Cardiff that they had bumped his slot and he couldn't have one anymore despite three letters of intention and his wife noshing the dealer principle in a Panamera diesel...
Or maybe they are, though I thought the GT3RS already used the Turbo S bodyshell with the side vents and wider track anyway, so in essence it's just a 991 GT3RS with rear seats and softer suspension????

Is there a new Porsche 911 R coming?
If you know your Porsches you’ll know the reverence the 911 R nameplate holds. And we have it on good authority that Porsche is hatching a new special model, along the lines of the 997-based Sport Classic, that could well bring the 911 R badge back to the future. It won’t be a racing model like the original, but it will still be quite unique.
Based on the information we have learned a special prototype rolled off the Stuttgart production line earlier this week. This hitherto secret 911 features a Turbo S body, a 4.0 litre GT3 RS engine and suspension components from the GTS and GT3. The model has rear seats and Porsche is toying with the idea of badging it as a 911 R.
And, if you know your Porsches, you’ll also know that when they make limited-run models they don’t come cheap. It’s expected the 911 R will have a €250,000 base price. That’s close to €70,000 more than the list price of a GT3 RS, or around the price of a Cayman S.
At this stage we can’t say this is any more than a well-founded rumour based on information from sources AUSmotive has come to trust. We won’t mind at all if you bookmark this post and hold us to account.
Sounds like Porsche are getting tired of bashing out the 'Black Editions' at the bottom end of the 911 range and have decided they can knock out a limited run of 'elite' 911 at a considerably higher profit margin, whilst the current bubble holds and people scramble to get their hands on the emperor's new wheels!http://www.ausmotive.com/2015/07/22/is-there-a-new...

Haven't we already fantasised about an new 911 R?
It should manual only, clubsport option of the base 991. Fit something fancy to make it stand out as something special, like the GT3 RS lightweight roof, then take the back seats out, use the GT3 alcantara trim and see what else can be done to make it weigh 1400kg. Then make it only optionable in the same way a GT3/GT4 is (i.e. bugger all) is. Oh, and don't limit numbers.

An R should be uber light and not wide body!
It fizzes my pop that manufacturers bang on about weight all of the time and never really make cars lighter. They just keep getting heavier, and yes I know it is in part down to all of the guff that buyers want.
I am sure that it would be possible to make a simple 1250kg 991. It would transform the car.

Have you seen the length of the GT3 option list? I didn't think the GT4 was that different, but could be wrong?!

The little salesman in this OPC was sacked for playing with his clients wives, fortunately he played too dirty even for the Dealer Principal,
shows they had some standards at the time, who knows what you have to do to get an RS with them nowadays

I really think Porsche is starting to overdo their special models.
991.2 will have all current variants plus a 991 GT2 which was hinted at many times, plus the rumoured purist manual Clubsport, plus the presumably very low (<300) volume 991 R as a Sport Classic replacement.
Then again every single one of them would sell out before the official announcement, so why not make them.
