991s going turbo....
Discussion
I don't like the idea of it it very much, but playing devils advocate, there's got to be a fairly decent chance that Porsche are going to pull it off and make engines that NA enthusiasts will enjoy right?
1) Engine sounds are all engineered nowadays, so they'll prob be able to make it sound like a NA flat 6 does currently, even if it's never going to be as good as a gt3 mezger or air cooled
2) clever things like electric motors spooling up turbos with VVT, if done properly, must be able to eliminate any noticeable lag
What do you think? I guess I'm just hoping that there's a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, esp since r&ad for turbo tech will have been massive as it'll apply to the whole range not just the "halo" model

have you driven a 991 turbo...
I'm not a N/A zealot
.. my experience of modern turbo cars (everything from discovery 4, Golf GTIs, 997s, 991s even a long passenger ride in a mc12) is they are phenomenal and pretty much uncompromised.
Porsche have a 35 years history at making turbo charged 911s...and the latest ones are epic...if the "normal" 911 is anything like them - we have nothing to worry about.
The N/A v Turbo debate is probably more meaningful once you start comparing screaming high rev engines such as the GT3 or v10 (CGTs) but for the regular 911, I see no issues ???
Have Porsche suggested the next GT3 will be turbo charged as well ??
