2nd day of not being able to ride due to a goosed rear wheel bearing.

taking the whole bike over my mates tonight who is a bike nut with all the tools and the know how.

a bit of research has indicated its a cartridge type wheel bearing, so will need to extract and measure, hopefully the Evans at the Velodrome will stock the bearing and we'll have the bike ready for tomorrow morning.

all this this means more than 2 days off the bike

Now I don't really like the 6.5km ride to work, in fact I find it a boring chore, its just 2 bits of straight road really.

But what I do like it is mapping different 15k routes home, and then hammering that.

I've only been back riding 4.5 weeks, but I miss it already after just two frown

any one else finding road riding addictive and breakdowns cause a small withdrawal?

this...

Recently bought a Brompton on the C2W scheme. Its the only bike out of a fleet of four that gets used on a regular basis. The road bike and the CX just sit in the garage gathering dust. Bit of a shame as there is probabaly £2k's worth sat there.

I joined a cycling club in May, but thanks to a foot injury and baby bakerstreet, I've only been on two club runs frown

When I was commuting more, mechanical faailure wasn't major issue as I could switch to another bike with just a change of shoes and swapping of saddle bag. Howeever, the recent foot injury was very frustrating and expensive as I had to get the tube for three weeks frown

Make the most of the summer, I have a toddler and usually ride 5-8am before he and my wife are up, as a bonus its cooler and the roads are quiet... and I get back in time for breakfast together.

I really wouldn't rely on an Evans having a stock of cartridge bearings. As you're in Manchester (I presume) try this lot who are in Leigh just a couple of minutes off the A580. They have a trade counter you can just go to unannounced and even have a special bike section now on their site.

I lost about 3 weeks of riding when my little daughter was born, my Wife says I'm not easy to live with when I'm not riding so packed me off, sleep deprivation made be a bit mad and I would howl and giggle when I'd get into horrible shapes and crash nearly crash (mtb).

I missed 9 months through injury once, I was climbing the bloody walls by the end of it, had to completely re-learn how to ride too, crap it was.

Hhaha I agree with the Baby point, we had one last September! during the pregnancy my misses encouraged me to go out as much as possible as I have up booze to support her.

Got two teenagers who want lifts over the weekend and two feral dogs that want walking as well all the time, so Weekend club runs, what are they again? Thankfully stayed pretty fit, but not as strong as last year by quite a bit!

OP get another bike, you know that's the answer! Having said that my 4 bikes all have a long list of jobs that need doing which I don't have time to do!
