Can a stripped thread be repaired on GT3 wheels?
Discussion
Long shot, but worth an ask. My 996 mk2 was forced to retire during a race on Sunday, and I discovered 2 wheel bolts on the rear left had completely worked loose and stripped their threads. Sadly the wheel thread itself is also stripped.
Is there some magic that can be worked on the thread? Or do I concede and buy another wheel (any pointers much appreciated)?

Doh! I've just had a brain fail. Of course I don't mean the wheel, ahem. Actually the sockets in the wheel may have slightly ovalised which probably means the bolt will not sit well in the socket and I suspect the wheel cannot be repaired for that.
The bolts are toast but the workshop are now telling me the threads in the hub itself seem to be OK which is confusing. I will have to go down there and look again.
Out of interest, how did you convert the wheel?

Creaset castings down in Kent near me could help?
They build wheels from scratch for all manners of race teams in all materials.
They could re cast the holes and bore out with the right dimensions.
Not sure u can buy the wheels anymore but can ask a mate who works at local opc in parts department.
Failing that I have seen a gt3 wheel for sale on ebay.de. Have mates who are going to and from the ring all the time who can get it back from Germany if delivered to somewhere like the burgstube?

Thanks all. This is really helpful stuff. In an ideal world, I would go with Neil's PMNA solution, especially given the intended usage of the car.
In the real world, my 2015 racing budget has already been blown out of the water. And the more I think about it, the more I'd worry about recasting the sockets on the existing wheel. Not sure they will ever be strong enough. So maybe the (temporary) solution is to junk the bad wheel and source another off eBay, or buy a second set of BBS E88s off a Cup team and recoup costs by selling the three good OEMs.
Of course, that still leaves the problem of existing wear in the threads across all four hubs. Ultimately the only sure solution is Neil's. Once I have 4 good wheels, I'll test the car on track and check for movement, then take a decision.
