GT3 997.2 - would you buy with this DME report?
Discussion
Sounds like it's been bounced off the limiter once or twice, I doubt that's anything to worry about - Porsche would still warranty a car with events in Rev Range 1 & 2... 3 and above would need further investigation (boroscope etc).
My mates PDK has hit the limiter a couple of times accelerating and has a few events in range 1.
If in doubt, phone an OPC - if I were buying a gen 2 GT3, I'd want at the very least a 111 point check passed with any spotted items rectifying prior to purchase.
Best of luck!

With the GT3 you can bounce off the limiter all day long and it will not record a rev limit.
(limiter set at 8400, RR1= >9000prm )
Basically an early downshift has caused the RR log. Nothing to worry about though at RR1 and 2.
Good point, I confused the S with the GT3 WRT range limits...(limiter set at 8400, RR1= >9000prm )

That is fine from a RR point of view. Often GT3s don't ever register because of the raised logging limits. However from a warranty point of view RR1,2 are fine. The 142 means it has had 142 ignitions in that range which (someone correct me when I get this wrong!) each ignition is 1/3 of a revolution..therefore 3 ignitions are one rev.
The rev ranges are
997 GT3
RR1> 9000 and < 9200
RR2> 9200 and < 9400
RR3> 9400 and < 9600
RR4> 9600 and < 10000
RR5> 10000 and < 11000
RR6> 11000
Therefore at 9000 rpm 142 igntions relates to 47revs of the crank or 0.31 sec.
It will have needed to be mechanically overreved most likely a missed gear change...
Also to add it woudl appear to have been overreved at least twice once at 311 hrs when it hit RR2 and again into RR1 as this was at 372 hrs..

This means it has exceeded the limiter (on a down change i guess) once and hit the rev limiter 142 times right? I suppose you don't know what the exceeding of the limiter
could have done but the rest wouldnt worry me.
exceeded the limiter yes. but i think prolly for less than 1 second. I wouldn't worry about RR1 and RR2 from the tough old mezger and neither would an OPC.could have done but the rest wouldnt worry me.

As per the topic, I have just had a GT3 997.2 inspected that I am thinking about buying. The DME report was as follows:
Range 1 - 142 (372.2hrs)
Range 2 - 1 (311hrs)
Range 3-6 - 0
Is this considered 'safe'? Any help gratefully received.
Check the total engine hours on the DME too so that you know how long ago the last RR1 adventure was.Range 1 - 142 (372.2hrs)
Range 2 - 1 (311hrs)
Range 3-6 - 0
Is this considered 'safe'? Any help gratefully received.
That data wouldn't even slightly bother me. Porsche would warranty it, so clearly doesn't bother them either.
As for the 1 ignition in rr2, that's almost certainly an error. 9e told me that anything under 10 in any rr is likely to be an error.
I would go as far to say that seeing data like that would make me very happy about buying it!
