So I can't get to the bottom of my squeaky breaks on my RS. A well known specialist tells me its due to the pads fusing with the shims and that its a simple fix.

However car has just come out of my local OPC for warranty extension plus a few other bits and bobs including fixing the breaks. They tell me there are no shims (contrary to the specialist) and that the disks (steel) and fine and pads only 50% worn.

As an asside I also get a load of "droan" noise under heavy sustained breaking

Can anyone provide some clarity on this or been through this before?

PS Anyone taken delivery of a GT4 yet?

do you use them hard, if not go and use them hard.

or strip and put some of this on contact patch's

I doubt it has shims and I also doubt many specialist comments these days.

I fitted RS29 pads to mine and they don't squeal, my mate had RS 29's fitted by a Porsche specialist and they squeal so bad he took them off and sold them a week later.

It's a shame that even the most basic of jobs, it's better to do yourself then trust any one :-(

When used hard they are fine!! (except for the "drone")

Its that annoying low speed "look at me puling up at the lights" moment that I hate! And to clarify, thats the only thing I don't like, everything else is perfect!

As above, use them hard or change them for a less aggresive material. Putting some anti-squeal paste on the backs as suggested will help but is usually only a temporary measure.

we all get a bit of that on GT3's mate...as mentioned above, you just gotta use them hard enough from time to time, and probably live with the low speed squeaking.

Assuming you are still on factory brakes (breaks are things you get that can be lucky or bad smile) there is a sort of backing pad (shim) stuck to the back of the pad. Sounds like they need a stamping on to give the friction surfaces a bit of a clean up but some low speed noise isn't that unusual.
