In short, having obtained a spare front PU and having it resprayed to match my car I have now also purchased the motorsport grill mesh to glue into the three slots on the top front of the PU (ala 996 GT3 RS).

My question quite simply is, will a normal electric glue gun be sufficient to do the job. I realse that a lot of hot air will be emanating from the mesh and would not want it to fall off. The upside is that the OEM grill seems to be a lot thinner and lighter than any aftermarket 'looky likey' stuff I have seen.

Any pointers appreciated.

Ps the previous owner seems to have used some quite thick black rubber type compound - possibly silicon sealant.

A lot of people who put grills in the front use a few dots of Gripfill. It is very strong.

Have used this adhesive in the past on my old 993 spoiler grill when I switched it to the split grill version, which gets blasted with heat from the engine.

Had very good results using it, fit and forget.

sikaflex body panel adhesive in black.

Thank you both for the heads up. Does this mean that the electric glue gun is a non starter or just that nobody has used it - ??

I was hoping to sort it out today but will have to remove the large amounts of excess glue/sealant from the surrounds anyway. I bought a glue gun a couple of days ago and it looks like I will be back down to Screwfix to get one of the other suggestions. Bugger.

The problem with the hot glue is its not flexible, if something hits the mesh (and it will) it'll probably pop the lump of glue away from the PU.

The Black silicone stuff or drainpipe/gutter stuff is low modulus so will have enough give in it to absorb the bumps etc.

I wouldn't dwell on it too much though any kind of silicone will do the job.
