An interesting idea but as for RN interest, how do they propose that takes off and lands from the new carriers without cats and traps?

I would suggest its to trial it as a replacement for the hawk fleet? I know a lot of people were impressed at RIAT last year.

I think it will be quite sad when the Hawk is retired, surely one of the last "all British" aviation success stories ?

I don't think that the Hawk T Mk1 is due out of service until 2020.

The Hawk 128 or T Mk 2 has only just come in to service so will be around for a long while yet, although I think the RAF have only bought 28 so not many left over to replace the Mk1 s in RN Service.. Maybe the Scorpion is a possibility for the RN role?

That's what I was suggesting, remembering that the military procurement programme is a long drawn out process.

T1 covers a number of roles from fast jet pilot training, exercise support for Typhoon and the Red Arrows so the replacement has a number of roles to cover, it will get very political as I am sure BAE will push for the Govt to buy more T2s but I dont think there are any build slots available to meet the timescales unless we push T1 out to 2024/5 (which is quite easily achievable).

Would the Govt let the Red Arrows fly a non-British aircraft even if its found to be affordable and the most capable? At £20M its comparable to a T2 as well!

I was all for it, I also suggested Tornados, personally the perfet Red Arrows display would be them to approach crowd right at approx mach 1.5....
