Monster truck racing arrives in UK

Gross and overweight, and that's just the trucks. Watch them race!

Fancy watching some monster truck racing? With more power and faster acceleration than Formula 1, Monster Truck Racing has become one of the US's favourite pastimes. And now the Monster Truck Racing Association Europe is here, looking to make fans in the UK.

The massive machines are recognisable from the stunt shows that travel around the States but this is a real racing championship. Trucks boasting 2,000bhp that can accelerate from 0-60mph in four seconds race against each other, as well as the clock, in the hope of winning the prestigious title of European Monster Truck Racing champion.

Monster machines like Blown Thunder, reigning champion Li’l Devil and the amazing Bigfoot 17 become stars almost as big as their drivers as they leap off ramps, crush cars and doughnut around hairpin turns in their quest to win races – and the championship.

With a superb programme of sideshows and support activities, a day at the Monster Trucks also offers trade stalls, stunt riders and rally cars.

As an added attraction and boost to the UK tour, Monster Mania will be giving one lucky fan the chance of winning a road-legal monster truck in their national text-in-to-win competition. This unbelievable prize will be on show at every event. To enter, simply text ‘monster’ to 80508.

Monster Trucks? I thought the car in that picture was just a stock F150. Are you sure you have the right pics?

Just kidding. Nice change from F1's parade laps. Bet it'll be popular up north...

0-2mph they'll be faster because of the greater traction from those large tyres.....

Monster Trucks! Ok, so you've got an hour and a half of watching cars go around a circuit, or from what I've seen in MotorSport News, some 1,500 horse power mega machines jumping over cars and racing each other with fill-in stunt acts....now let me think....£1,000 to see F1 for the day on my own, or, what, £50 to take my family to a weekend of stuff we can all enjoy? Sounds AWESOME to me.Where & when are they on?

Thanks for all of the cool feed back on the forum. As one of the drivers chasing the championship this year I am really pleased by all the positive reactions.

Are we faster than an F1 car?
Easy way to find out, i will race any F1 car to 60mph on their home turf, asphalt. But then they have to do the same on my home turf, turf. we can time both runs and aggregate the time gaps in each case to see who is the faster?? sounds like fun to me!!

It is true that we have 1500 to 2000bhp and that the trucks weigh five tons, but we have VERY deep gearing, for example our differential ratio is 18 to 1!!

Thanks again for giving monster trucks some well deserved exposure and if any of you want to come say hi at an event, I'm the one in the big blue BIGFOOT truck..

Supertrux - sounds fantastic, the V8 sounds just as nice as any F1 car too

Hows about you guys turn up at the school gates one day when those "green activists" are there campaigning against 4x4's, that way you could crush a few of their parked cars to show them how safe the 4x4 is

Can't wait to see some racing !!
