Viamichelin "Discovery" route?

I'll be driving down to my folk's place near Cognac this summer, my usual waypoints for the route when avoiding the motorways is Le Mans and Saumur, but other than that I just let the sat nav 'avoid toll roads'

I noticed Via Michelin has a "discover" option in route types. It looks like it might do the job, passing by some interesting places en route.

Anyone followed a Discovery route? Is it properly nadgery stuff to make the point of getting to somewhere moderately interesting or does it actually make a decent alternative to normal routing (albeit taking a few hours longer)
