Do rollers kills road tyres like TT's do?

Hi,

Simply question as I've been offered some rollers. I use a stationary exercise bike at home more than my Turbo because its noisy and chews up tyres and I don't have money for a second rear wheel/cassette/tyre- do rollers munch on road tyres?

I believe not.

As I understand it a turbo pushes the tyre down to get grip and resists the movement of the wheel for the resistance. On rollers the bike just sits on them. If anything it should be lower wear than the road.

No, they are tyre kind, used mine with road/cross and mtb tyres, admittedly a mtb tyre is noisey on it

It's not a bad compromise all in all.

They only hurt tyres in the fact that if they get hot they can cause a bit more wear than road surfaces, although it's barely noticable at all.

Did you actually but a MTB tyre into a "normal" TT? Must have sounded like machine gun fire! Bonkers :-)

Nope, as stated I did my research and bought a rim trainer! Nice and quiet, zero wear on the tyre and no faffing about.
