Advanced notice Flypast 10 July (2 Lancasters??)

Just a bit of advanced notice.
There will be a flypast for the VE day commemorations on Sunday 10 July 2005.
Aircraft will be staging from Duxford, although it is probably more impressive to see them along the flypast route.
It is planned that the flypast will comprise of WW2 aircraft. Rumour has it that the RAF have contacted the Canadian Air Museum to see if they will send their Lancaster over for the event.
If they do then we will see the sight of the only two airworthy Lancasters in the world over London.

Not sure about that. They did have a ban in place for single engine fighters needing special clearance.
E.g a Hawk can overfly London as it can glide reasonably well. On the other hand Harriers don't, so you won't see one of those over London.
A couple of Civvy DC3's did the poppy drop over London last November.
The BBMF Lanc is due to do this on 10th.

Didn't they ban old aircraft that are not part of the BBMF from flying over London ? I seem to remember some fuss about a privately owned Spitfire not being allowed to do a flypast for some reason .!
Not sure about a private Spitfire, but the throttle jockey who flew a Hunter between the top span and the roadbridge level of Tower Bridge in 1968 might have had some inlufluence over future decisions
Few years ago the BoBMF did a display for the village where we lived at the time.
Anyway their flight path passed directly over our house twice, and in the 10 years we lived there never had a plane fly so low over the house. Saying this consider that our house was right in the flight path of RAF low level training.
A Lanc at that height (if height is the appropriate word) is just so utterly impressive and just SO GLORIOUSLY LOUD!!!
Utterly unbelievably gloriously magic!

I live in Basingstoke. Near (you guessed it) Farnborough.
I was outside my house doing some gardening and was suddenly confronted by the sight of a Lancaster going overhead with fighter escort..
I yelled and yelled for the wife to come out of the damn house and see it too but for some reason she didn't make it out until too late...
Fantastic. If this is ever done again near us I'll make whatever journey necessary to see it...10th July, eh?

Rather than take any risks, i'd have thought it better to dismantle the Lanc and transport it over?

It's one thing to dismantle an aircraft for shipping to a new customer. It's very rarely done (if ever) for an aircraft that has to be put back together fairly quickly, do a couple of airshows and then dismantle it again after a few weeks for shipping back to its home country.

As reported on the Flypast magazine discussion forum (and confirmed on the Canadian Warplane Heitage's own website) the Canadian Lancaster will definitely NOT be coming to the UK this summer.
To be honest, I always thought that getting the Lancaster across the Atlantic would always be highly unlikely scenario.
