Just after a bit of advice please..

My girlfriend has a Mk6 (2012) Golf Convertible and we have a young 16 week old puppy... This mixture has resulted in a chewed though cable under the front passenger seat. The airbag light has now come on and I assume this cable has something to do with the airbag in the side of the seat.

On scanning the car with an OBD scanner the fault code is as below:

Airbags
Part #: 5C0959655A
Component: AirbagVW10
Coding: 00004348 (hex)
Fault codes:
9439761 Manufacturer-specific code

This is a photo of the affected cabling:

It looks like it can be detached, at least one end has a plug, but I'm not sure it is user replaceable or will do something silly on removal like set the airbag off! (I'm not great with electronics...)

Can anyone help? Is it replaceable and if so where can I get a cable from?

Any advice appreciated.

It's advisable to at least disconnect the battery -ve terminal and wait a few minutes before working with airbag cables, there may be specific instructions to follow for your make/model of car.

Even if the cable could be replaced if you can only see a connector on one end of the cable you could end up having to take off lots of trim to get to the other end.

I think it would be best to consult an auto electrician who may be ably to simply splice together the damaged cables. There may be some complications if your car has CAN BUS electrics - I'm not an auto electrician so the above is only my guess (based on having read about 2004 Beetle airbag wiring).

Thanks for the reply, I can see being sensible and getting it done properly may be the best solution.

Had my fingers crossed it'd simply be 'plug and play' but I guess I best dig the Yellow Pages out.

Hi,
Exactly the same thing has happened to my wife's mk6 golf with our puppy🙄,
how did you get on, did you have to replace the wiring harness or did you manage to repair?

The code is a "short to ground" - probably what you'd expect with a chewed-through cable.

I'd try a proper auto electrician - splicing the wires and re-sleeving it all isn't a massive task.

(this bit is the part where all the disclaimers go about airbags, disconnecting batteries, unplugging, etc.)
