Hello all.

Off to view a couple of 996 C4S and two very different cars. One with low mileage and no rebuild and one, as the title suggests, has covered 175k. It does have a good service record up until 170k when it received a full engine rebuild at Volks Apart.

What concerns does this mileage raise for anyone in terms of the car itself or what areas other then the engine should I be concentrating on.
Also anyone ever had experience of Volks Apart, they are new to me.

Thanks

Do a search on google re the volks apart car, there is a thread on 911 uk of someone's not so great experience. To help your search use the key word 'cowboys' and the thread should appear near the top.

Thanks, not a great start but seems to be the only negative report I can find. Anyone had first hand experience. Obviously the work is all receipted and under warranty but is it worth the paper its written on?

Ask if they used new steel liners. Then ask Hartech how many issues with third party fitted steel liners they've seen. wink

What should they have used or what is the preferred type?

I found 3 with little effort. These engines need to be built by a reputable specialist. The words barge and pole come to mind with regard to the 175k car. Would hate to see you post in a couple of weeks time that you bought someone else's problem. There are lots of good cars out there....

Absolutely. Thanks for your responses, I have since seen several forums relating to every thing from gearboxes, engines, parts from Volks Apart and non very favourable at all!!

In that case run away and find an alternative car.

You'll have lots of trouble selling on a 175k mile car with a non-Hartech rebuilt engine. I wouldn't bother unless it's had all the suspension and other wear and tear bits refreshed and under £12k or something.

If you believe the hype on the 996 C4S and that prices will increase in the future, get yourself a nice low mileage example (but not too low so you wouldn't ever use it!)

Have a look at the photos on Hartech's Facebook page today to see what can go wrong with a steel liner rebuild (no idea who did it though). yikes
