I feel my 3200 gt is too dangerous !
Going to buy the Gransport.
The rear end is too "trigger happy"
I Love the car but the seating position is crap (no matter how I position it! )and the weight balance is awful!
You may agree or disagree but I feel the Gransport is a better car all round.

Too much power compared to the chasis.
I feel the power is way to much for a poor chassis?
Does anyone else feel the same or is it me ?

I will probably get shot for this but I think my 3200 Gt is too Volatile !
Even though its down to Driver Performance, the car has way too much power compared to a poor chassis.
Dont hate me for posting this but its how I feel.
Maybe its lack of experience, maybe its true I dont know but I feel the car is wasted on UK Roads !

Had my Asssetta Corsa about three months and I love it to bits but know what you mean. Going across snowy, icy roads in Warwickshire last week and the bugger was all over the road whatever speed I was doing

Wouldn't change it though.

Learn to use your right foot carefully . . .

Right gear, right time, and just the right amount of right pedal and your ok. Drive it tired or not concentrating then you're not.

Yes the gransport is a better car, better than the 4200 as well.

Dave

p.s. living with the volatility is part of the fun, otherwise you could have bought a new M3...

And yes, every day I try to improve the seating position but haven't got it right yet.

Different seating positions depending on the journey (long or short)

Not being funnny but why not invest a couple of hundered squid into a performance driving course. It will be of benefit and can only help with any performance car.

Hi PCD.
I wanted the 3200 Gt So bad after driving her -
E.g Moving up a class etc...
But...
After 3 months I am in a dilemmer!!!
I honestly feel the car is a little too "unrefined"
Eve wanted something so much and then you achive it you are disappointed ?
The interior is as good as I have ever seen.
Performance = more than I could ask for
Image = Perfect
Handling = Dubious ! = IMO = Too much power for an Average Chassis - Just my Humble Opinion
My heart rate goes sky high when pushing her (trust me ive measured it !!!!)
The Engine Sound is Perfect !
But....The Overall handling is Awful !!!!!
I Know ... Who am I to Judge but I just feel its like a piece of clothing that you set your heart on ...
No matter how cool the item is , just just feel it does not fit %100 even though no one else will notice !!!
So...
Im off to Make a second decision on the Gransport as I still feel the need to own a Maserati over a Ferrari (well maybe not the 355!!!)

Reply to David A :
You know what ?
I considered an M3 for about 30 minutes !!!
My Misses chatted today about it !
But there is firstly an Image attached to them ! Say No More !
The Maserati Image is about the "Kudos" and the "Performace" but nobody can put a "Finger" on it !
But it is above the 911 and M3! From what I have found !
Flame me if you wish but I dont care Guys !
The Problem with the 3200 Gt after 3 months is the Seating Position, Chassis and no More IMO.
Anyone Else care to comment.
Maybe a 355 in the PipeLine / Gransport ?
What would you Guys go for ?

It also depends what market you're in, a gransport is around 65K+ a 3200 is 35K tops.

If you really like the maser are the assetto corsas any different in handling? How about taking it Manu at verdi and asking if anything can be done (shocks, springs, tyres, pressures etc) I know there are several people - one of whom came on a little tour round ascot/vw/egham etc whose car has 420bhp+ so people are even modding them to get more power. But it is horses for courses, if you're after a safe ride with lots of power - 911 C4 or gransport etc.

Best of luck with it.

Oh and next 4200 spider, dark colour, avorio leather or an Aston (but I can't afford one!)

Dave.

p.s. Tried a cushion on the seat or maybe one of those bead things

The only 3200 I have driven was a bit loose to the extent that I felt that I could'nt really lean on it and trust the grip at the back. But it was'nt as bad as that - maybe yours has knackered shocks? Maybe a different tyre choice would help?

Certainly, the 4200 is better. But even then only go for a 4200 from 2003 onwards ( they had vastly improved traction control systems from then and much improved cambiocoursa gear shift )

Don't go for a 2002 model !

If you are going for a Gransport then I take my hat off to you, sir. No the Gransport is a properly sorted car, and simply gorgeous !

Hi Daivd,
This May Sound Arrogant But price is not my 1st Issue.
I have my "Tubi" On order for Approx 10th Feb 2005.
If I see a Car I want I buy it but I feel "Attached to the 3200gt" now for some reason - I am Still trying to Figure out !
I Personally Feel the Only Real ferrari is the 355 and the Newer Models have Lost The Plot (Yes I have Drive the 360 etc upto the 430)
But ... The Maserati is Still Quite Unique - E.g You dont see many About !
I personally Respect the 911,993,996,997 etc But IMO they have no real Character but I understand why People But them. I guess I am somewhere between the Market of the TVR Cerbera and the 3200 GT !
The 3200 GT is Quality through and through but the TVR is a Tad Unreliable should we say ! But... Both are Scary if you dont pay attention !
I wish I could Improve on the Handling of the 3200 GT . Therefore ....
Any Advise Guys . I Dont want to Sell her - I wish I could solve this to be honest .

I drove the 3200 GT at launch in both auto and manual guises and it scared (and thrilled) me - the wayward back end, hair trigger throttle combined with turbo lag made it a very difficult car to drive smoothly. But I thought that the "campaigns" (as I believe Maserati term "recalls") had sorted this out via software adjustments.

I wonder whether you've ever driven a torsion bar 911 in anger Maserati3200GT? it can feel like those early 3200 GTs if you really push it, all pendulum and "accidentwaitingtohappen" feeling. I've always found that if you respect your 911 it'll respect you and I'd apply the same logic to any powerful RWD car....

Have you come from powerful 4wd or fwd cars? If so, this may be skewing your opinion of the 3200GT. My apologies if you've followed the powerful RWD route (eg Porsche, TVR, Aston because then you'd be eminently qualified to comment on the car).

In any event, I'll take your car off your hands for below book money if you like (they're trading below book as understand...) - I rather like the character of the 3200 (only if it has boomerang rear lights though).

Cue my point, if price isn't an issue head to the specialists and ask their opinion (unless thats here!) It is very special no doubt (I see more ferraris than masers), more so than a 4200 tbh.

RubyStone - I see where your comments are comming from.
I have previously owned "entry Level Perofrmance Cars" e.g Clio 172 to Merc 190 2.6 for Example so Perhaps I come from Limited Experience .
The 3200 Now Just Feels like an accident waiting to happen ?!
Is it Just me ?

David - The One Thing I cant Stand about about the 4200 is the New Lights !!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhh
They are "Honda Accord" Lights !!
Sod the Yanks - The Boomerang were part of the "Kudos" of the 3200 and yet the Company "Sold out " to the Yanks !
Awful Decision IMO.
The Boomerang Lights are Wonderful and Sadly Missing on the New Models.
A Serious Own Goal IMO!

So no advanced driving courses, no performance driving courses, no track day experience.

Devils advocate of course but why not invest in learning to drive performance cars and spend the cash on having the seat re-padded to your spec. If I could this is what i would do rather than change to something else. Seeing as you're likely to get butt shafted on trade in it can't hurt.
