On yesterdays Fred Whitton, I suffered severe cramps in my left quad. It first hit on the first steep ramp on Honister Pass but I managed to pedal through it and the cramp subsided. It hit again on Cold Fell and again I managed to grimace through it. However, on Hardknot, it beat me and I had to get off (along with most of the other riders I must add wink ).

This is something that I have not encountered before, even on steep hills I ride on regularly (Swiss Hill, Mow Cop). Was it just fatigue or is there something I should have done differently? I think I was hydrated enough and I used the electrolyte tabs in the water.

I'm tackling Hardknot again at the end of June and so will have a chance to see if any advice works!

Good effort! I was going to ask how yo got on. I tend to find I can avoid cramp by changing positions, climbing seated, then a minute or two standing, then seated and repeat but assume you did all that sort of thing out of necessity so I'm not sure if that helps!
