Has anyone seen those black and white cross stickers with Kernow on them. I understand it is something to do with Cornwall. Anyone care to enlighten me further.

Kernow is Cornwall in the local dialect (gaelic?).

We want INDEPENDENCE from the rest of the UK (sorry devolved European regions) so that we can charge emits to come and visit our lovely country.

Its the same as the Scottish Soltaires (sp?) you see opn the back of cars - just people saying that they "belong to/come from" Cornwall, not necessarily the UK per se.

Here's another then. What's with this trend of reproducing the Union Flag in black white and grey? Is this a fashion thing or is is it some kind of political statement?

Cornwall couldn't survive without the tourists - but the best bit is when we've scammed you of all your money for over-priced cream-teas, dodgy accommodation and extortionate parking fees and you've gone home, we're left with some of the best views in the world, great beaches, empty(ish) roads and PASTIES! (yeah, I'd forgotten - been a while since I was back there and had one mmmmmmm)

The black and white cross is derived from the flag of St Piran - originally the patron saint of tin smelters but later adopted as the patron saint of Cornwall and 'Kernow' means Cornwall in Kernewek which is the Cornish language. Hope that clears it up!

P.S. Mondeoman what's this 'we' stuff - according to your profile you come from the Midlands! Are you a deserter?!

Totally agree with mungo and tuffer, although the Pasty shop in Tintagel is pretty good. Living in the South East I have to make do with the pasties from Marylebone station.

Now what about 'cream then jam' or is it 'jam then cream'?

My Brother-In-Law lives in Truro, first time we went down there thought we'd better get a pasty, so ask him where the best pasty shop is (Rowes apparantly).
So I bundle in and ask for a pasty.
"Chicken Tikka, Curry, Vegetarian, Chicken, Hot & Spicey, Cheese & Vegetable (etc.)" came the reply.
"Just a normal pasty please" Says I.
"3 Tourist pastys!" Yells the assistant to her mate by the oven!!

I was once unfortunate enough to be stuck in Truro on a Sunday. Well, talk about dull. And closed. I've never been anywhere with fewer pubs & restaurants in my entire life.

Rest of the trip down Devon & Cornwall was marvellous, but I'd advice fun-seekers to steer a course around Truro or you'll come out the other side with a travel rug and some tissues on your parcel shelf.

It's jam, then cream, cream, cream and cream.

Not sure they see many TVR's down there either. People would just stop in the street and point!

Nasty pasties can be avoided. Brother in law lives near Redruth and the Spar up the road from him used to (still does?) get them from the local baker

Get them early whilst still hot and double yum.
