Hi all,

Sorry for posting such an uninteresting topic. Just looking for a bit of advice, we've got a Silverstone track day booked for next week, I've just checked the pads on the car ('05 GT3) and they're looking a little low, pics below.

Top of the pad

Bottom of the pad

Bottom of the pad is thinner than the top. They're OEM Porsche pads. Quite a bit of high speed braking to do at Silverstone GP - do we think they'll last a full day there?

Cheers

They look okay in terms of not wearing through, however they may fade quickly or boil the brake fluid through heat transfer.

Just a thought, and will possibly be an issue depending on how old the fluid is.

Brake fluid was replaced with Castrol SRF just last month, so should be fine on that front.

Thanks all smile

if my car, they would be changed. just don't like the odds of stressing the brake system unnecessarily and/or worrying about it while on track.

Go as fast as you can early on and if they don't start to fade in the normal session time you'd do then you're fine - if they do start to fade, cool them down thoroughly and then finish each subsequent session at least one lap sooner.

FFS you have a GT3. Why would you go to the expense of a track day and be worrying about pad wear. Get them changed, bedded in an enjoy a day on the track without worry!

Plenty left in them. I drove to Spa and back, including a full track day, ( over 700 miles ) with a lot less than that.

Pads were fine in the end, they still look similar to the pics in the OP! Thanks for the advice all.

Here's some vid from the day if anyone's interested http://youtu.be/kJrwfNwR63w
