OPC warranty......
Discussion
Hi,
I am thinking of renewing the warranty on my 2007 997.1 turbo before 25 may and I have a question around the 111 pt check. It seems that the 111 pt check is merely the approved used cars checklist and it doesn't actually list an over rev check as being a pre condition for an approved used car. Am also a bit miffed at having to pay almost £200 for a check when I only collected the car from its major service last week. It seems the 111pt check is more comprehensive than a major service, not withstanding the fact they change the oil, filter and spark plugs any idea why a 111 pt check is £200 but a service is the best part of £1500?

I'll answer a part of one of your questions!
If you have a hit in rev range 3 or over then your car will have to undergo further investigation before issuing warranty.
If you'd have asked them to complete the warranty inspection at the same time as your service then it may well have been at a reduced cost or even free.

Went through same process recently & had the check in with the service.
Thanks for the replies. Must admit am feeling niggled about the charge for a check some 3 weeks after a major service to the extent that I am on the verge of deciding to forego the warranty. I have only had a couple of things go wrong in two years and the cost of getting them fixed was less than a 12 month warranty.
The cost of the check is swallowed up if you take the warranty out.
That was certainly the case with my Cayenne.
My warranty ends it June 2015, and my service is due in 1500 miles.
Will see how it pans out - as soon as it is out off warranty, i'm off to my to an indy (its brakes time).

Feel your pain. When talking to my local OPC (Leicester) they actually said you can extend the warranty at any time during the current one - the time will be added onto the end.
One query that I still have is to do with 'what if work is required' - e.g. brakes. Can I get them done elsewhere (still using all genuine parts) and then get them to put the warranty on or do i have to go through the checks yet again?

I don't know for certain but if they don't do the work then IF they allow it to have work elsewhere I'd certainly expect them to re-inspect and charge for doing so. Imagine if they didn't - you could replace safety critical items like brakes yourself, cock it up or miss bits off and they'd still be signing it off as all OK.

My 2007 997tt tip is due for its warranty renewal in June
Is it worth taking out a warranty if you only do 1500 a year (due to other toys and limited selfish me time)
last 12 months have been trouble free
Yes, I think you should. My 996T had the full 10 years as an insurance policy. Too much that car go wrong on a 997T that 1 claim could easily be the cost of a years worth of insurance. Like if you are unlucky with a VTG or PCM or spoiler. Is it worth taking out a warranty if you only do 1500 a year (due to other toys and limited selfish me time)
