Will an K-Series R300 with a decat and SLR exhaust be OK to pass the noise tests on track days? I will go an get it tested at a local track but wondered if others with a similar car have had any issues??

Hi,

I have the same car as you and do a lot of track days. The only circuit I have problems at is Bedford where I have to lift off the throttle going past the noise meters to avoid being black flagged.

From memory my car is about 98dB.

Hope this helps.

I had trouble with the SLR exhaust on my SLR. It had run out of packing and very loud. Had to buy a new can. The only way you will know is to get it tested.

I tend to average about 98db. I did run into some problems at Bedford and Donington, but fixed it with a re-packing.

You can test it yourself with a free app on an iPhone.

I have a sound meter and the iPhone is within 1dBa of that.

Hope this helps

Drove down to Brands Hatch on Friday and the car passed the Static with a reading of 95.5. Only thing now is if the pops and bangs the car make pass the drive by. Should be ok but I am booking myself into a track evening at Snetteron next week to see what happens.

All exhausts are repackable with some skillful use of an angle grinder and a welder !!!

The packing doesnt last 5 minutes and gets burnt. Had mine re done as got fed up with the drive by keep tripping despite the static being fine. Job done.

Ahhh I see biggrin The problem with any exhaust like the ones we run is the internals get very hot and burn the interior stuffing / wadding. Changed mine recently and it looked like a dead cat that fell out the end !
Presumably if we had the room for big internal baffles and the like , wadding would not be required.

Are you at Snetterton tomorrow evening by any chance? If so I'll see you there!

Perhaps I need to learn to weld. The cutting is fine, it's the putting back together that's the challenge.

Yes I am hoping to be there if I can get away from the office early enough. With any luck it may not even rain!
