I have just gone to go out for a drive in my 308 GTSi QV and the car started up without any issues (although I have not used the car for about 3 months). I then tried to engage reverse and it would not go into gear. I then tried to put it into any of the other gears and wouldd not engage any of them with the clutch in. I then turn off the engine and tried engaging the gears andd it seemed to go in to each OK. Has anybody got any idea what this is as I have not had this problem before?

IS the clutch actually disengaging? Could it be that the slave cylinder is not doing it's bit? If you pump the pedal a few times does this make a difference?

If it's been a while since you drove it, it could just be a sticky friction plate - put it in gear, put the clutch down and get a mate to push the car and see if it frees up. Other than that, a trip to the mechanic is probably in order!

Good luck - Dave.

I suspect your clutch plate is stuck to the flywheel, quite a common problem if you don't use a car for a while.

You could try starting it in gear, allowing the starter to move the car forward, it may help, particularly if you can get it moving then stamp on the brakes

When it used ot happen ot our old Landrovers we used to jack them up, start the car in gear so the wheels were then turning and 1stly stamp on the brake pedal, if that dind't work we dropped them off the jack!, you probably don't want to do this with your 308!
