My nearside headlamp bracket is bent due to an accident, I have a new bracket which does not have the cables in it. So I have to remove my existing cables and thread them through the new bracket. It looks to me like I have to cut of the loom plug at the engine end and rejoin the loom after threading the cables unless somebody has a cunning idea for another method??

How old is the car? The latest ones have a removable plug.

If it's the same, you need to slide a very small screwdriver or similar down the side of the yellow insert, where the two lugs are. Lever it over the lugs and pull out.

Then using the same screwdriver, lever back the tiny locking catches on each cable and pull out each wire in turn.

Then they'll pull through the bracket and can be refitted through the new one.

Note carefully where each cable goes into the plug, of course, but also the way each one goes into the plug as they have to be put in correctly to lock. When they're all back in, and lined up OK, replace the yellow insert.

Of course if it's a different plug this is probably useless!

When I upgraded from the older angle-iron headlight brackets to the newer hockey stick type, I simply cut through the loom in the engine bay and added a connector.
Being able to disconnect the headlights easily didn't seem like such a downside.
