Evening,

Whilst giving the car a spanner check this evening for impending track day on Tuesday I noticed that there was a small fuel leak from the internal fuel pump after trying to tighten the bolts I got a nip on them which made it worse, removing the pump cleaning the gasket improved it slightly however still worse than it was in the beginning. I have tried to gasket sealant and that has not made any difference really as it still leaks.

A cry out for help if anybody has a spare lying in the garage or any bright ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Ross

Hi Make sure you seal the threads of the screws too, as I did my gasket on my JPE saddle tank and it leaded worse, the fuel was actually coming up the screw threads

I had a persistent leak on my R500 almost from the day I picked it up from the factory.

I complained to CC and they had it back at midlands several times, but the weep always seem to come back after a few hundred miles.

It got so bad with the smell of petrol in the garage, that the wife kept complaining, so I decided to fix it once and for all.

I ordered a new gasket from CC, and removed the tank completely to take a good look at it.

On inspection it looked like it had been pinched on one part of the gasket from new,and therefore was never going to seal.

Also it looked like quite a bodge from whoever had tried to fix the problem at CC mids, with a very hard gasket type goo all over the place, that looked a lot like exhaust gun gum paste!

Suffice to say I cleaned all of that off, fitted the new gasket, made sure I put RTV on all the screws and put it all, back together.

I have now done several thousand miles since that work, and not once have we spotted or smelt a leak again.

So my advice would be just get a new gasket, if you want to fix the problem for good.,

It's a standard rover item, so a rover dealer should also have one in stock if you can't get one from CC.

Good luck!

This is the gasket you need, it looks like rimmer brothers keep them in stock, as CC are showing out of stock?

Had this myself last year where it was leaking from the fuel pump gasket.
James Whiting does a heavier duty gasket which is much better than the standard rover part. I recommend fitting that one instead.
