i'm seriously thinking about getting a 1600M. but i havent been able to find a price guide anywhere for the m series and was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect to pay for an average driveable car?

also how many 1600's were built? as they dont seem to come up in classifieds much. any help appreciated

148 built, not so many left on the road, maybe 50 or so max? Price guides are a bit vague really as the ones in the classic car press never seem to be updated. I wouldn't part with mine for the sort of money that they quote....

Keep an eye on e bay - There have been 2 1600Ms on there in last 6 months, also why not place a wanted ad in the classifieds. I have been thinking about selling mine lately but just can't seem to bring myself to do it. I will let you know though if I have a change of heart.

Dont let the insurance put you off, I would get a few quotes first, I've got mine with MSM and for some reason they class it as a kit car.7k milage limit fully comp with protected no claims (okay i had 6 years ncb) but got it insured when i was 25 for about £550. about a 1/3 of the price i got quoted elsewhere.

a Vixon, how wonderful!

This seller has got 1 neg feedback out of total 5 (for selling a bodged, misdescribed car, so it seems), and doesn't even know the correct model name of the car he is selling......

One to view before bidding perhaps.

Agreed. Insurance isn't a problem if you find the right broker. The most I've ever paid for my 1600M was about 400quid and now, at 31 and having had the car for 6 years, it's a smidge over 200quid. Unlimited mileage, agreed valuation, Classic policy with GroupAMA through Firebond. And they didn't seem to mind at all when I told them the spec of the new engine and that it pushed out 145bhp rather than the 86bhp of the original....

On the other hand, the AA quoted me over 2k for cover, and the cost of the policy only went up by 100quid when, for interest, I substituted a 3yr old Griff 500 worth over 20k for the M.....

Hi Kris,
I am afraid so mate - I really don't want to but find myself having to sell my home due to a soon to be ex wife taking my eyes out and then coming back for the sockets - this means I will soon have nowhere to keep or work on my beloved M - I'm gutted actualy considering all the effort I have put in getting it back to its former glory from the state it was in when I found it.
Cheers
Graham

Cheers Kris,
I will be back at some point I am sure - stumbled across a 2500M in a garage last week which was in bits and has not moved for 15 years, left the guy my number so you never know.
Will still be checking out the forum though in the mean time.
