So maybe Ronin is right?! tongue out

Jethro has just lapped Anglesey in a 991 Turbo S in 1.13.6 on the first lap - no support from Porsche, Standard P Zeros.

https://youtu.be/Uv8z7inZKpU

Speciale did a 1.14.2 with Ferrari support and on new tyres.

https://youtu.be/hQmmJXm2hCA

Only things faster than the Turbo S so far are the P1 and the 918 Spyder.

Jethro reckons that a 991 GT3 won't get close to the Turbo S, even with the special rubber, and maybe not even the GT3 RS.

Pretty special piece of kit, the Turbo...vastly underrated.

Easily the most impressed I've been test driving a car .

I am not surprised at all. My humble 996tt has around the same power bit lighter with decent brakes and suspension and it is by far the fastest car I have driven, including competition cars, EPIC smile

"It does well everything, and brilliantly. In fact it might just be the greatest all purpose, all weather car there's ever been."

Sure similar was said about the 996 turbo and probably the 997 turbo. It's what the 911 turbo does!

Yep. Many years ago I drove a 996t back to back with a 360 at an infield Rockingham circuit; the porsche was fast (particularly out of slower corners), stable and easy to drive quickly (hell I was able to). The 360 was lithe, agile and precise in comparison, nothing like as fast but a way better track car if fun and involvement are what you're after.

Can't fault a 4wd 911T on effectiveness in any guise, could the latest one be the most frustrating car on sale today though?

Very impressive indeed. It's that involvement it is missing, and has been said, modern cars have so much grip that in almost all scenarios you will be left frustrated.

Perfect for our mate Ronin though, AKA Mr Point and Squirt biggrin

When I read this I laughed my head off. For all the blatant snobbery on the forum, the endless talk of values, the mythical status attached to the gt3, etc etc and the latest Sportscars from Porsche can only just match the lap times I set on my old 2007 ZX10R track bike that cost me all of 7k. Love it!

Congratulations, you are the man. laugh

We all know bikes are fast and cheap, for a reason. Whilst I ride myself, I don't go around knocking every lap time or acceleration stat of every sports car and tell the world how my 10p bike is faster. The value of something is more than just laptimes. Ride safe.

"the latest Sportscars from Porsche" So you think you can do a 6.56 round the Nuburgring on an 07 ZX10R? I would pay good money to see you try!

That looked great loved the standing start .... times with different drivers though but massively impressive as the Speciale at Portamoa was 5 secs faster than GT3 with same driver ......
When you see the Turbo S in flesh nicer looking than GT3 as well....

I had a chance of driving 997.1 and 997.2 turbos on their press launch and never did like it much... Great fast car but not so much fun.. however, the 991 turbo S we drove was exceptionally fast AND fun.. Compared to some more expensive and faster competition such as mclaren 650 it really excells in the lower speed speed stuff... under 160 kmh.. due to 4wd it has such incredible traction that driving it get very physical.. I'd have it in a heartbeat.. smile

Can't agree with that. The gt3 already looks seriously large especially beside the older gt3s (and the 7gt3 is not a small car At all) but the 991 turbo is just.....vast.....

about 1-2 secs quicker on Cup 2s or PT Rs! i.e. quicker than a 918 around that particular track - incredible!

Point to note though, the weather looked really hot and warm, so that will have helped this car go quicker than some on the time sheet.

If they go back next DEcember it might be a lot slower.

Yes and No! It's a double edged sword.

If the ambient temps were high that would obviously hinder the engine, as Turbo's MUCH prefer colder denser air. If the same test was done on a cold but dry winter day the engine would be slightly stronger.

If your refering to tyres, yes, the warmth would help. Do the same test on a cold dry day and the tyres would be a slightly weak link.

One of the great points about that clip is that the Turbo turned up unassisted and just killed it.thumbup
