997 - Mileage v Condition?
Discussion
Hi
Looking to buy a 997 in the next coupe of months.
Does anyone have views on mileage v condition?
Let me caveat that by saying, obviously, I am not looking for a bag of nails!
When I see '06 plate 3.8S for £22k with FPSH but 75k miles I'm in a quandary.
What constitutes "too many" miles?
If I put another 15k/year on the car will depreciation be felt more on a low or high mileage car?
I realise that these are big questions but sharing views, opinion and experience would be appreciated.
Cheers

Probably better in the Porsche section but bore scoring would be the biggest concern and this is more likely to have occurred with more miles.
A high mileage Gen 2 car (2009 onwards I believe) might be a better bet than a low mileage Gen 1 but many people would be wary of anything without a warranty. That said, there will be plenty of 997s out there that never present any problems...

mileage is clearly linked to value
however, I'd argue mileage is precisely linked to scoring, with many low mileage examples suffering
also, there are lots of 'high mileage' 997s knocking around with no problems
an 80k mile car with good history, spec, and a clean borescope wouldn't be a bad purchase by any means provided the price reflected the miles

Hi,
I would def steer clear of 997 Gen 1 IMO. A very well respected Porsche Indie said they see quite a lot of problems with these & not just the odd isolated case. If budget allows go for a 997 Gen 2.
I have just bought a 997 Gen 2 CS2 PDK 2009 with 53K miles - not exactly high milage & will only put 6K miles/year.

Hi Andrew911
This seems to be a common view.
My budget tops out at £25k so I don't think a Gen2 is in the picture.
Unfortunately, I sometimes (rarely) need 4 seats to do one leg of the school run, otherwise I would be happy with a 897 Boxster RS60.
911 ownership may need to go on hold until kids leave school.
