A rather cheap Hartech rebuild though at £5k, so maybe not the full monty of Hartech rebuilds.

Well, it's on autotrader and the dealer's own site. They're a legitimate dealership so it's not a scam. So yep, amazing though it seems, it is real.

Says it has a "great" back story but doesn't say what it is? Featured in EVO magazine, but for what reason?

Haha! Indeed. I doubt it's the best 996 on the market but that is a very keen price for a 911 that's had the Hartech treatment.

That is a cracking deal!

If someone does not buy that quick, my brother probably will.

I have just called him and left voicemail.

Watch this space.

If he does go to look at it then I would advise him to dig into the details of the 'Hartech rebuld'. Their 'belt and braces' rebuilds usually come in at £8-£10k, so the amount quoted seems rather cheap and may not be the 'bomb-proof' rebuild they usually do.

Something tells me it'll still be a lot better than most sub-£10k 996's though. Also, bear in mind that the £5k referred to could be for just the engine work at Hartech, whereas the higher prices you're suggesting are usually their bills for a removal and refit/commissioning too, from the ad it sounds like a different garage did that in this case.

Yep, all true. Just though it worth mentioning. It's a shame I'm not in a position to move on one myself just yet, as otherwise I'd be straight up there to take a look!

No longer listed, must have sold quickly or the seller has taken it off line.

Yep, gone from Autotrader too. Either someone grabbed a bargain or the seller has realised what a steal it was and is reconsidering the price!

£6990.

Has it set a new base level for 911s?

The original advert called it the cheapest 911 in the country. I guess that means they were running it at such a low price because there was either something wrong with it, or they wanted to generate some forum buzz about their business.

I can fully understand why current owners might be cynical about this car, but for someone intending to buy a 996 in the next 4-6 weeks, it presents a bit of a dilemna.

If a Hartech-rebuilt car can be had for less than £7k, I might feel a bit of a mug handing over £10k+ for a similar year manual C2 without the peace of mind that a Hartech rebuild brings.

I know this is a much asked question on car forums but given savings rates of <2% and the possibility that the stockmarket is at a high do cars like this present a genuine investment opportunity? I mean if I bought this and mothballed it for 5 years (oh the sacrilege) could I expect a healthy return? Surely 20% is realistic?
