Hi guys - I'm a 911 newbie so would like some advice please. Would it be better to go for a 997 with higher mileage (no more than say 90k) or a 996 with lower mileage? Budget for the 997 would be max 20k and budget for the 996 would be max 15k. Factors to consider are reliability and resale value in say a couple of years time. Car will probably do no more than 5-6k per year.

I don't think you'd get a nice 997 for £20k...or at least one that wasn't going to cost you a fortune

my money would be on a mint 996, maybe a 4S if you can get one

Any links to the kinds of 996s discussed would be appreciated.

This one has been tempting me:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

But it's a long way from home and my schedule for the next five weeks means there's no way I can get to view it :-(

There are also a few nice C4S models going at around this price.

You could also look out for the 40th anniversary edition, some nice ones around for about £20k at present.

Looks great.

Red sports cars are starting to look good in the same way white ones were 5 or so years ago.
