Ive got the opportunity of buying a fully rebuilt with carbs 1600 Lotus twincam (not big valve) and wondered whether this would fit directly into my 1993 Supersprint and if so what if any would be the driving difference....or would it just be a waste of 3.5k or would fitting a Zetec engine be a cheaper and more logical way to go to get a quicker 7...... dont get me wrong I like the old skool feel of my supersprint , the noise, the spitting flames from the exhaust ect, but after 6 months ownership im now wanting a bit more power and I dont want to part exchange for a later model , ive become quite attached to it...
Im not mechanical so any comments please keep them pretty layman'ish...lol....thanx

I'd go Zetec - and I did!

Easy fit, and totally reliable, and good power (210BHP in mine).

See: http://www.7-dna.com/forums/index.php?action=vthre...

While the Twincam will fit, it will be a much more 'temperamental' engine.

As ascetically lovely the twink is to look at I'd take Eugene's advice and go for a Zetec

The twincam in a nice engine, but no more powerful than a tuned cross flow.
If you want more power with more torque, but more weight then a Zetec will be a better bet.

If you aren't worried about torque, it might be worth considering a steel crank and more extreme tuning for your cross flow. I met a chap with an 8000rpm crossflow at Lydden once and he went past my brothers 1700 150 bhp Fury like we were standing still.

Ok thanx for the advice ... I bought it anyway I think I will just spray a little duck oil on it and put away for a rainy day as they seem to be getting very rare and its been lovingly refurbished and might be better than keeping my money in a bank!!
I haven't opened you're link you posted yet but just wondered what the cost would be to go the zetec route ...just ballpark ??
Thanx ....

I'd suggest talking to Raceline - they do complete Zetec engine kits.
That's the route I went.

See: http://www.racelineonline.co.uk/products/index.asp...

That's the basic engine (with additional mods) in Eugene, as linked to above.

If you've got it, better to use it than store it surely?

I was admiring a brand new alpha 4c the other day , but most of all I was thinking 1.7 turbo engine produces 240bhp at 6000rpm, plus 258lb ft of torque .... how easy Would that fit into a 7

Turns out wasnt a bad decision was offered 5.5k for it this afternoon by somebody building a Escort mk1 twincam replica... and I havnt even picked it up yet!!!! ( didnt know they were gettin that rare !)
Might pay towards Zetec conversion if I decide to sell it. ?.

That was a good flip smile

So what about your own car...? Did you go Zetec in the end?
