It had to happen to me!

I have just been run into by a numpty. I was turning right into a side road, he pulled out into my drivers side as if I wasn't there.

The guy was 90 if a day, and needed 2 people to assist him across the road to exchange details. Several people asked him if he was OK to drive (I bit my tongue) as he was clearly only just able to walk. He didn't seem able to speak properly either. I offered to call an ambulance, but he refused.

What the hell are people like this doing on the road?

I now have an Audi A8 with the driver door stoved in. He lifted my car off the ground, so he must have booted his Merc to hit me that hard. I can't open either door on that side. I am gutted.

Saw an old bid pull out onto the A30 recently. She just drove straight out of a side road and into the central reservation. One of my neighbours can barely open the front door yet he still drives. It's a disgrace.

Been to see plod, no-one was injured so they are not interested. Full stop. Fact that the guy was so incoherant that I felt obliged to get his address checked by the police from his registration didn't concern them. He could have been on drugs or even pissed - I should have rang 999 when it happened.

It is a disgrace, the guy was obviously not fit to be driving for whatever reason, and now I suffer for it.

I must be getting over the shock - I want blood.

Anyone in the Coventry and Northampton areas please be warned, there is a lethal numpty loose in a Silver Merc, reg no KV51 BY2.

Sorry to hear this Phil, hope you get you Audi sorted without much grief.

I've had a few close misses with the same sort of thing.

I've got to the point now where to protect myself in a possible accident claim I Always carry a camera in the car.

A mate of mines wife was involved with a numpty in an accident, we were only about a mile away so sped to the scene, we told his wife over the phone not to move her car (luckily numpty couldnt either) we took loads of pictures and it's what won the insurance claim.

Now if I was unfortunate enough to be in a knock the first thing I would do is not move the car, grab the camera, get out and ask if the other driver is ok then without a care about any traffic we may be holding up, I'd waste a film on the accident for evidence.

Might sound selfish, but when you could be the innercent party and the other person will possibly lie, in my book it's the best action to take.

Good advice, and in future I will be carrying a camera in the glovebox.

Didn't have a choice about moving the car though, it happened on an industrial estate and we were blocking access for HGV's.

Can't see how there could be any doubt who was to blame, he drove into the side of my almost stationary vehicle. The door is stoved in but there are no horizontal scratches, so its pretty obvious he just drove into me while I was not moving. The laws of physics cannot be argued with.

But it is a good point. Quite frankly I didn't have a clue what to do. With hindsight I should have called the police, if only to prevent the guy from driving off when he was clearly incapable. Too late now, they don't want to know.

Sounds like you were the good guy in this one Phil.

Just make sure you put as much detail into the claim form. Sounds cruel possibly, but the way you've discribed the other guy, it sounds like he may not remember it all, which hopefully help your claim.

Cheers,

Dave.

It happened directly outside my office as well, so I won't be short of witnesses! Thanks for the good wishes!

I find this bloody incredible.

Three years ago one of the loons in my office got a knock on the door one night from the local police. His car was allegedly involved in an incident of spraying the contents of a coke can at a trailing car. Of course no one new anything about this but it was later suggested that the following driver was tailgating and driving like an arse.

If the police can investigate this why can't they investigate a numpty with the concentration span of a goldfish who has clearly had an at fault accident. If he can miss an A8 audi parked infront of him it should be quite easy to miss a 5 year old kid!!!!

To say they are trying to reduce death on the road whilst not investigating claims like yours shows their quest for road safety is a load of Bullshit.

Phil,

Its such a pity that you are going to develop a sore neck this evening and have to go to the doctors.

It may not help but may be worth a try !

It is always worth saying at the scene of the accident, especially if there are witnesses that you now have a bit of a sore neck - start of whiplash maybe ?

Whiplash is worth £1500-2000 these days.

Not that I'd condone such claims

The only way to get plod interested is to say you have been hurt when they get there an ambulance is sent for the other party is checked over as well the police are not doctors so cannot chalange your report of indjury and a statment is taken of the accident to us in the insurance clam etc.

In reality, whiplash injuries often surface 1 to 2 days after the accident - my brother had a similar accident where he was T boned by someone who had jumped a red light. At the time he thought he & his wife were fine, but a day later, he & his wife were in agony with back/neck pains (no really, they were ) Took about a year & half to recover, and they both now have weak backs...(this is from a fairly low speed accident)

Phil, if you stated to the police that the other driver was incoherent (possibly under drugs? alcohol? whatever), unfit to drive IMHO they MUST do something about it. If necessary raise a complaint, but it's your right and just because they've numpty governmentyl targets to fiddle does not mean they can just ignore a report. I'd create hell if they refused to come out, and possibly faint with the stress of the occasion causing a paramed call-out............

Perhaps one of our BiBs can clarify here???

Phil - hope you get this sorted, and even at the sniff of a sore neck, go and see the quack.

A few years back I was instrumental in getting my gran's licence revoked as I felt she was a danger on the road - to herself and others.

I thought that anyone over 70 had to reapply every year to keep their licence? - is there not a health and eyesight check to go with this?

oh, BTW I hope you succeed in removing this man from the roads - he is clearly a danger to himself and others.

/Repeat ad nauseum: Silver Merc, reg no KV51 BY2/

Phil, from some of your previous posts I reckon you're from Rugby. True? Where did this happen, you said Northampton/Cov and KV is a Cov reg IIRC. I'm thinking of having bull-bars fitted to my old Cav (D135CUM, think about it, fellas)...

Anyway - definitely get a disposable camera for the glovebox, I've had one for a couple of years (also useful for snapping the Jaguar and Range Rover development mules).

Yeah, went down like a shit sandwich... but she understood the reaosns behind it.

Besides... brokered a deal with the local taxi firm, so she gets a big discount and pays annually... and her grandson (me) pootles her about from time to time.
