I was disturbed yesterday evening by the sound of the offside window on my Elise being smashed by a troop of the local street urchins. They were on their heels before I or any of my neighbours got to the door.

Could someone explain this to me? I mean, I can kind of see the point of stealing a car. But to just smash it up for the sake of it strikes me just downright ignorant. It is clear that these kids had no intention of stealing it - I doubt they could reach the pedals.

All I am trying to do is get on with life and enjoy a bit of spirited motoring now and again. However, I have to put up with these little morons going out of their way to make my life more difficult. The police of course were no help at all - I am still waiting for their "telephone investigation team" to call me back. Not their fault really as I could not identify who did this - all I saw was a load of kids running around the corner in the dark. However I would have thought they would have at least sent a patrol to drive around the area – I doubt they went very far and I doubt I was the only victim last night. This suggestion was not seized upon by the local constabulary however – something about allocation of resources. I’m still unclear where the vast sum in I pay in tax goes – anyway that’s another rant.

I know many people on this board have far worse tales -the Griff being set on fire sticks in my mind. But it just really pisses me off that these people have no conception of what they put us through. My fiancée was really upset by the whole thing and now feels really vulnerable in our own home. Bastards.

Bummer. Hard luck Beasty, it really pisses me off to read things like this. I won't start a rant. I just hope you and herself get over it and back into the Elise soon.
All the best

Sorry to hear about that - it makes one feel rather violent doesn't it.

Regarding police response, I believe if you call 999 then they have to send someone. I'm not suggesting that you waste police time or misuse the 999 service, but if you saw the guys then they could be said to be in the act of doing it and I would have though that that would warrant a 999 call.

Any advice from the PH plod ??

I defin. agree with you, but apart from wiring your car up to the mains...theres nothing you can do!

....i have the same trouble as you. People walking by looking like potential car thieves, but would be satisfied with just smashing a window...

.....since buying my car i have been content with having the bedroom window ajar and sleeping lightly..

....i did have a run-in a year back.....

...i have nipped into a friends house for 5mins to talk to his father...whilst leaving my wallet, cigars and new £600 phone on the passenger seat.....

....after coming back to the car, finding a popped window..i rang the phone..

...only to talk to the scote who then congratulated me on a fine choice of phone and cigar....

.....hummm....my fault i guess...but why shouldnt we able to leave our cars anywhere?

Thanks guys. Arrangements have been made for repairs, so no lasting damage - except to my peace of mind.

As for the police, I did call 999 on the basis that I saw the perpitrators run off and was hopeful of a rapid response. More fool me.

Blatent vanadlism, it totally disgusts me.

You mention they ran off into the dark. At this time of year that would imply later than 9.30pm. Why weren't the little cherubs tucked up in bed, or playing video games at home. What are their parents thinking letting the little scrotes run around in their little gangs at this time of night.

Caught some little shits nicking the stereo out of an old mini about 10 years ago. Grabbed them by the ears and dragged them home to confront the parents. The parents were a fat pair of grotty slobs who asked me not so politely to F*** off. Its a no win situation but you might feel better if you release some of that pent up aggression on the little swines.

In our area, garden walls are often kicked down by scrotes as they walk home after a yoof disco. I heard mine go over recently and looked out of the window and distinctly saw them. We were decorating at the time, and in my rage I spotted the big tin of white emulsion. Grabbed a freezer bag, put some paint in it, tied the top up, and got me pushbike out. Rode after them and threw it at them snowball fashion. Luverly white paint all over their Nike gear! Crapped meself about getting back home, but laid low for a while!
