Morning chaps,

almost a year (well, 10 months) into owning my first 911 (C2 997), and (touch wood) had nothing wrong except a popped side light bulb. However, the MOT will soon be here and although the service intervals are 2 years does anyone have any realistic recommendations re. minor servicing?
I did get a dealer email offering to 'kick the tires' for about £130.

Oil change, filter etc?

Loving it by the way.

Pleased to hear you are enjoying the car and having a trouble-free ownership thus far.

Most owners, myself included, have an oil and filter change every year. It is generally thought that 2 years/20k miles is too long an interval.

That's what I thought. Might get something looked at. Sometimes, at idle, it sounds like a bearing is making a noise, maybe a fan?

Glad to hear you're having good times so far smile
I totally agree with a yearly oil and filter change, irrespective of mileage or service schedule. It's good practise for any Sports Car, imo.

As for the noise - if it's a low ticking, it will probably just be the fuel injectors as they sit near the top of the engine; if it's a whine or squeal it could be a tensioner for the ancillary drive belt (can't remember if there's two or three) but this would normally only be from cold, so I'd get this looked at if you can still hear it once the engine is warm.

Interesting and good to hear you are having no issues with it. My first year is just up and within that period have had to replace: 1 oil scavenger pump, 2 front tyres, 6 coil packs, correct the alignment and add 1 litre of oil. Still, I went into 997 ownership with my eyes open and just take comfort that each small rectification / change makes the car that bit better.

I'll get the local specialist to have a look. Not a ticking as such, just a, well, bearing sound. Cold or warm seems to have little difference, and it's not there all the time. Not a lot of info I know, but I'll now try to keep a note of the circumstances when it happens.

Yea, great car otherwise. The GF loves the heated seats but won't explain why! ;-). Bose sound system makes your skin itch, etc etc etc.

The only negatives really are the way the water runs in over the switches if your windows are down and the car is wet, and it's extremely lively if you use any gas at all going round corners in the wet. Plus never ever go through a puddle in it.

They don't do rain basically.

Great to hear. I'am returning this weekend to my local Porsche independent to have a second look/test drive in a late 2009 Gen 2 C2S PDK. If all goes well I'll be buying it. It will be good to get back into Porsche ownership. This could be my 4th Porsche.
