Spent the weekend at the 'ring and did 8 laps in my mk2 Golf Gti 16v, noticed a few cars there with Pistonheads.com stickers on, a CTR, a TVR and a Blue 911 Carrera (which span at Weirseifen..!)

This was my muddled post on the Ringers@smartgroups.com list >>..

Just got home from a fantastic weekend at the 'ring!

some highlights..all a bit muddled but hey..

1st lap Saturday morning (wet), locked up at Aremberg ,took the rest of the
lap at snail's pace.

Spectating at Brunchenn Saturday lunch time and the Grey 944 came broadside
up the 2nd uphill right and held it all the way to Eiskurve!

as did the blue UK registered Superlight R ... brilliant to see the exposed
front wheels working in oppo lock!

Met Euan in the car park , he'd arranged for me to get a lap with Sabine in
the Taxi with some Danish guys.

After ummm Tiergarten I felt totally safe and really enjoyed the ride, BIG 4
wheel drift through the right hander(s) at Flugplatz, 240 Km/h or thereabout
down Schwedenkreuz, lots of Kerb through Wippermann and airborne at
Pflansgarten 3 at 220! Sabine applied a smidgen of oppo lock to set the car
up for the next right hander.

She told us the tyres last just 10 laps in the dry.. I'm not suprised!

Many thanks to you Danish guys for the lap and thanks to Euan for sorting it
for me...

Ahhh, Euan....

Euan offered me a passenger lap Sunday and Tony (a biker) came along, we
passed the TVR Cerbera and an Evo 7 through (I think) Hatzenbach - Sabine
passed us there too (sideways of course).

Then we got to Ad-forst and the 328i decided to do a nice spin, we didn't
hit anything so no probs although Euan was full of apology and mentioned
something about the rear seat passenger up-setting the balance...lol!

We got going again and caught the TVR *again* and he lets us by somewhere
near Bergwerk.

Brilliant lap and I (tried) to take note of some of the lines..thanks Euan!

As it was only my second trip I was quite pleased by the way I could string
a few sections together and try a few different lines etc, I must admit to a
bit of showboating "neik style" at Brunchenn - lift off oversteering round
the 1st right... Did it a couple of laps and then decided against it as
spinning there isn't a good idea.

Fairly late on Sunday I went on the track just in front of Ben and Francis,
carried too much speed at Hatzenbach and lifted, this threw the car sideways
down the last downhill left hander, had to use a fair bit of lock to catch
it, Bren said I was "lucky" when we watched the video last night!!!

Even though Bren's place is a fair way from the 'ring the decent hospitality
and good company, more than make up for it, we arrived at 10:30 Friday
night feeling a little tired after the drive over, had some food and ended
up sitting up drinking and talking petrol head nonsense with Bren and Gary
till about 1:30 am.

One the way back to Slider's last night we nipped into Sabine's for a Pizza,
just by chance she was watching Euan's hilarious vid from the Taxi lap he
had with JW and Francis, It looked like the car had rolled when the camera
fell off the screen...really funny stuff!

No doubt I'll remember more of the weekend's happenings tomorrow...

Welcome to PistonHeads. I wasn't at the ring but have driven it before - in the rain in an E36 Evo M3. Fantastic place - Karrussel is unforgettable!

Cheers

Welcome Gary. Glad to hear the stickers caught your attention (Greg's Cerbera was the centre of attention all day in the car park!).

Still trying to find time to do the write up!

Hi Daz, I'm on Ringers too, when in May were you there? I was there 4/5 May with my Griffith, it p1ssed down all weekend (and snowed overnight!)

When I was out with Euan we caught the TVR at the entrance to Bergwerk, the Cerbera was popping and banging on the downshifts.. Sounded good!

Hi Dave.

I was there the weekend following on 11/12 May. The track was open sat evening 5.30 til 7.30 then sunday all day. I did seven laps of which 6 were in the wet and one in the dry (left sunday lunchtime). Couldn't arrange for the weekend before because of work commitments.

The visit was one month after picking up new 996tt (fully run in of course). Bloody brilliant in the wet, my mates 360 was all over the place. Only one scary moment in my car, on my first lap The right hander uphill out of brunchenn towards Eiskurve, the back slid out, I steered into it and PSM did the rest.

DAZ

Planning on going first weekend of september. This is dependent on my younger brother being able to get the friday and saturday off of work. To say he was distraught when he saw the video of my first weekend is an understatement.

Didn't miss much the w/e b4, sounds like the weather was about the same - I did about 20 laps, 3 in the dry

I'm going to be there (probably)15-18 this month (mainly evenings and all day Sunday)- we're collecting my mate's S2000 from Belgium then going on to the Ring - what a way to run a car in! (Yes he's going to be careful )

Also might be there 15th September (maybe meet up with some PH'ers after Folembray)

PSM, pah, I had to deal with a bl00dy Griffith - Best solution seemed to be to go really slowly

Later

My next door neighbour was chauffered round the 'Ring a couple of weeks back by a German "expert" testing the new supercharged XJ. He was supposed to be monitoring temperature, but given his account of the experience I'd be surprised if he managed to do much else than avoid being sick!

What a job eh?
