My engine was rocking. the top engine mount's bolt snapped in half, and rest of the bolt is stuck in the block.

what to do? I dont have a drill. someone stole my drill.

Is there any of the bolt standing proud of the block at all or is it all inside?

Have you got a centre punch? You could try punching a mark into the end of the bolt and see if you can then tap it round using the centre punch or some other sharp tool?

you can buy a aftermarket kit to get round this problem.

let me know:-

1) engine size
2) which bolt (big or small)
3) does it have a breather on the end casing.

and i can advise price etc.

Is this the kit that replaces the mounting point altogether? If so, then it will certainly get around the problem leaving the original bolt stuck in the block.

The kit mentioned is really very good as a repair until the engine has to come out, at which time the broken bolt can be drilled out and a 5/16" helicoil fitted to enable reversion to standard.
It's a real nuisance when this happens, and I reckon we've all experienced it at some time. Usually it's caused by the bushes wearing slack and then when you try to tighten the bolt a bit to compensate the bolt bottoms out and snaps. Always make sure the inner plate is fitted together with the correct washers under the bolt heads to prvent the bolts going into the block too far.
The Ultimate Engine Steady is a really excellent mod as well and is recommended for all Minis.

no breather

MSSK002 12.34

breather

MSSK003 19.68

both in the minispares centre catelogue

i wouldnt try getting the old stump out with the engine in situ. there just isnt the room to move about. best to fit one of these kits, then do the job correctly next time the donkey is out.

Stud extractors not work?

I had this problem. Stuck a washer around the hole, plug welded it. Stuck a nut on that, plug welded that spanner on nut, Bob's yer uncle.
